GTAIV - The ONLY Version is the Xbox 360 Version
I have read across many forums (where else can you find people spouting their opinions on every subject and non-subject in the world). Finding people actually considering what system they should be getting Grand Theft Auto IV. I couldn’t help but easily list the reasons why there shouldn’t even be a question of what system you should get this on. First I will start out with something small..
Custom Soundtracks - The talk radio in GTA is classic, the songs they tend to put in the game are usually great, but you will be playing GTAIV for quite a while. At some point you’ll want some new music, maybe your own music, thus the 360 comes in with the custom soundtracks (PS3 possibly one day?).

Achievements - This should never be a deciding factor, but more of just icing on the cake as far as a game purchase. When you think of a game like Crackdown, the achievements in a sandbox type game really do add a lot. Also the great names (”Warm Coffee”..classic)
Controller - Yes, the Grand Theft Auto series, started on the PC, made it big with the Playstation 2, and then was perfected on the Xbox. The tight controller made to fit comfortably in a person’s hand was what the game needed to be complete.
No more having to use the ‘too light’ toy like PS3 controller in the game. No need to spend $50 to get a controller that should of had rumble in the first place. The Xbox 360 controller gives you everything you need (except a good d-pad, but that won’t factor in for GTAIV).
More than just technical aspects, the Playstation 3 is the reason why we all have had to sit through delays until now to finally get a hold of the game.
“It’s really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to that” - Rockstar Games Vice President of Product Development Jeronimo Barrera
How can you morally support a company such as Sony for doing this to us! Seriously though, the fact that delays were made because of the PS3 version shows that the game was basically made for the 360 in mind and the PS3 version is almost just a port.
On the positive side, as the development teams had to take more time to get the PS3 version up to speed with the 360’s, there is no doubt the devs on the 360 were able to use this extra time to test and tweak the game to get the most out of it.
A possible situation on the extra time for the the Xbox 360 is by benefiting from better graphics. Look at a lot of the multiconsole releases, Devil May Cry 4, Call of Duty 4, even Lost Planet, a port they had all the time in the world to work on, all these games in the end are just plain better looking. I can admit I am nitpicking here, but if I had a choice, I would go with what looks as good as the game can of course.
Xbox Live - There is just no comparison with this versus the Playstation Network. PSN is getting better, that is all well and good, but it is still no Xbox Live. Looking past all the great features Live offers over PSN, the main focus should be your friends, and we all know your friends are on Live.
With the 15 multiplayer modes, you know you will want to be doing some co-op with your friends, and of course they will be playing online on the 360 (Note: Also know they have a headset because it was included with their system, I’m sure Sony will fix this some day).
Exclusive Downloadable Content - Microsoft paid money to get the goods. If you are a true GTAIV fan, this part should have already made up your mind for you. Feel free to be in denial about this being a factor on what version of the game you should get, just remember what was said about this DLC, “It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV” - Consider those words, and think of how big Shivering Isles was for Oblivion. This should not be overlooked if you have both systems and honestly can’t decide.
For at least another year, I would count on multiconsole releases to be superior on the Xbox 360. Developers say it, it shows in gaming sites reviews, in fact, the only group of “gamers” that would tell you otherwise is GamePro, and I think we all know how credible of a source they are. While Playstation 3 owners are making a sandwhich because their version of games require a forced install time, Xbox 360 players will already be experts in cop killing.

Aye, 360 comes out on top every way here. It’s the version to get.

pffff.. both versions will be exactly the same…
i u think that if i have ps3 I buy GTAIV with x360 ? Nope dumbass
go play and pay for online play in XXI century …

The bad part is that people like you don’t realize it’s worth it.
I had multiple accounts at one time, yeah worth it all the way.Try and open your head think for yourself and then speak. Yes I’m sorry we all have the right to freedom of speech but with 2 million people on X-box live and counting anything PS3 owners say doesn’t mean squat. Also before you say “I’m a hater” I couldn’t wait for PS3 to come out until they dropped the ball.
[Reply]
Why should I pay to play on-line with GTAIV?
Xbox Live is a minus, not a plus.

Mike Masashi Murakami III reply on April 9th, 2008:
You get what you pay for.
Though I am interested in what Home will be offering, I am not sure if that makes up for the ease of use that Xbox Live brings.
[Reply]
I disagree. If you already pay a subscription fee to access Live then you need to buy it on 360 to get your money’s worth out of your monthly fee. If however you own a PS3, all the same multiplayer fun is also on the PSN via the PS3, for free. Everytime, everday, Why pay a subscription fee to play online?
Why buy a 360? No HD, no High Def storage, no media slots, no wireless, no web browsing, shddy hardware. Pay M$ to get charge and play, wireless networking & controllers, outragious hard drive upgrade prices, and a monthly / annual fee to play multiplayer with your friends? No thanks.
[Reply]
Factoid reply on April 11th, 2008:
No HD? I have HDMI in my 360, and the original Premium consoles came with Component HD cables, a remote control, a GOOD wireless controller and a headset. PS3 doesn’t have media slots anymore, controllers with rumble cost 50 bucks extra.
There’s no such thing as “high def storage” so I’m not sure what you’re talking about there. If you mean storage of high definition video content…yeah the 360 has been able to do that since day 1. If you’re talking about Blu-Ray, the 360 doesn’t have that and HD-DVD folded, but there is talk of making a Blu-Ray player attachment eventually.
The hardware reliability kind of sucks, I’ll admit that. I’ve replaced 2 already, but I bought the warranty from best buy, so I just swapped them out, no questions asked.
It would be nice if wireless were included, but it kept the cost down, so I don’t really mind. The controllers are WAY better than PS3 controllers, and you don’t have to buy the play and charge kits, just get rechargeable AA batteries.
I will probably own a PS3 eventually, but right now I don’t see any must-own games for it that don’t already come out for 360 or PC. Haze is the only one, but even that one is rumored to be a timed exclusive.
Also, you should really never use the term “M$” again…it just makes you sound like an idiot.

gee, what a dumbass

What a fanboy you are Mike Masashi Murakami III, roaming the forums? You are ass trustworthy as wikipedia. I like how you trough in the controller wich is totaly bullcrap and more of an oppinion, and i guess that most gta fans played it with the ps2 controller. Oh and one more thing, how can you morally support a company such as Microsoft for forcing people to pay up to play online? Why dont you just go and make everybody´s life a little better and go and headbutt a bullet =)

fuck you, the controls werent perfected on xbo they suck. The series was the most familiar to playstation 2 owners and had much better controls, besides ps3 is getting customisable soundtracks. The ps3 version admittedly had less antialasing problems and less glitches thats what rockstar says. Besides who wants to buy the 360 with all these great games coming out. ressistance 2 killzone 2 metal gear solid 4, little big planet, home, gt5, god of war 3, 360 fanboys should shut up already.
I had an x360 before the rrod and after a while halo gets old. I mean theres no blood, other than that I cant see what 360’s really got going for it. Most of its games are getting ported to pc. So the best option if you dont have a 360 or ps3 or pc ist to go with a ps3 and a pc.

Soundtracks - ps3 will get them eventually, so im not really concerned, although i admit this is a plus.
Achievements - ps3 is getting them as well, some games already have them (dmc4)
Controller - i actually prefer the playstation controller (its what i grew up with..) although i do have both
XBL - not a big fan honestly. pay 50 a year, lags and craps out. ive actually had a better experience on psn.
As far as DLC goes, its definently a great thing for the 360, although the ps3 will be getting smaller things, but the 360 has the edge.
I have both systems, but i do plan on getting the ps3 version because i enjoy playing on the ps3’s controller more (since i got the ds3) and if im going to be holding a controller for 100+ hours, i want to play what is most confortable for me..
(before fanboys attack, i have both, like both, play both)
[Reply]
You are such a fanboy… it’s almost hilarious
[Reply]
sorry but this is a total load of fanboy c***
i think both versions will be absolulty awesome, it all comes down to personal preferance. like for me:
1. custom sountracks- not that important to me but will be it will be out soon after release anyway
2.Acheivments- sure their fun, but really i never understood why people care so much about them. I dont need a score to tell me how good i am
3.controller- ok this is the only point i cannot understand. GTA was previously ps exclusive, so why the f*** would i want to play it with a 360 controller. I’ll admit for FPS it is great, but for everything else the ps controller is better, its what im used to playing it on afteral
4. xbox live- it always makes me laugh when fanboys go on about xbox live. I’m sorry but does the ps3 not have multiplayer? I dont care about your flashy huds, ive been playing online for free for over 10 years (before anyone calls me a kid im 18). Im gonna carry on playing for free, go pay your money and stop stop going on about how great it is.
5. DLC- now this is your only good point in your article. Yes the DLC is good and a definate plus for the 360, but as of yet there are very few details. And i doubt its worth buying a 360 just for that.
If you havent guessed already im getting the ps version. But ultimatly it all comes down to personal preferance. Im just sick of all this fanboy trash talking. I always thought it was the game that mattered not the console you played it on
If you want to dispute any of what i said feel free. Please keep in mind however that these are my opinions and as i have presened my arguement in a calm and rational manor, and would appreciate it if you did the same

Mike Masashi Murakami III reply on April 10th, 2008:
1- Cool, custom stuff not for you, but from a unbiased standpoint, you have to admit that is a plus on the 360 version (though I keep hearing on PS3 getting custom soundtracks, I even link to something in the original post)
2- I agree with you on this, again though, it is still an advantage that the 360 has (for now, it is possible PS3 will add these in, but at this time it isn’t a selling point for the game)
3- GTA was previously a PC exclusive. It did get big on the Playstation. Either way, this was definitely my opinion (more or less in a GamePro fashion)
4- Coming from a non-pc gamer, I was always on consoles, so things like paying for good online service I just don’t mind (ie I would pay Nintendo if they would up their online service).

Factoid reply on April 11th, 2008:
The controller thing is very personal. The 360 controller is probably the most ergonomically designed controller I’ve ever used, going all the way back to the Atari. The dual shock controllers got the job done, but they weren’t comfortable. I’ve played GTA: Vice City on PS2 and on Xbox, and it controls better on xbox hands down.
You get what you pay for with multiplayer services. I’ve been playing games for 20+ years and the one thing every free multiplayer service has in common is that they all suck. Bad matchmaking, bad “friends list” services, bad server listings, etc… Live isn’t perfect but it’s better than anything I ever got for free.
At 18 you’re not technically a kid anymore, but when you say something like “I’m not a kid, I’m 18″ you sure sound like one.

fps_noob reply on April 27th, 2008:
I think you are greatly mistaking there. Online multiplayer on PC is free for almost all the games, and guess what, it doesn’t work any worse than it does with live. I’ve been playing CounterStrike series, Battlefield 2142, and other online games that are too old to mention without any problems, and guess what, the only thing I had to pay for is the game, and my ISP.
If you want to simply compare to the PS3, you are wrong still. I have to agree with you on some things, Live often does offer a better experience than the PSN, but counting the extended outage which it faced back in the winter, I say it is not worth the money. If you count that outage, the PSN is actually better, it may not be as stable, but it has never gone out for even a day.
[Reply]
Dear god people you’re missing the point - yes they will be almost the same but the article is highlighting what will be better on the 360…
So any comments about how they’ll end up the same are utterly futile.

Gotta love the sony fanboys. Xbox live is hands down better than sony’s “free” network. Like the other poster mentioned, “you get what you pay for”.
If the Xbox has “shddy hardware” then why are the same games so much better on the 360? I have both systems and and the Xbox version of GTA is the only one I would ever consider.

Blu ray takes twice as long to access data, which is why you are FORCED to install before playing a game. I waited 25 minutes installing DMC4 on my PS3. Thats fucking BS! that completely contradicts the point of having a CONSOLE!
im no longer the sony fan i used to be, because now i see that Sony’s just jumping bandwaggons and copying everything they see just to get ahead of the game. like what? six-axis, achievements, triggers, guide button, online Network, they plan on making in-game crossbars like the 360’s xbox guide, media streaming, etc…its pathetic! come on SOny get your shit together…might as well call it the PXWii for god’s sake…
[Reply]
darkpower reply on April 10th, 2008:
Sixaxis: If the 360 did this too (which they have reportedly now considered doing), would you call them copycatting? If you want to call ONE company a plagiarist for doing that, you have to call them ALL on it. You can’t just say that it’s wrong for Sony to “copy Nintendo” but then say that it’s alright for MS to do the exact same thing.
Achievements: I think they are trying to make an idea better. Why blame someone for that?
Triggers: Actually, Nintendo came up with shoulder buttons, and then Sony came out with the two shoulder buttons on either side. MS never had shoulder buttons until the 360 (the “Black” and “White” buttons were what the original XBox controller had). Sorry, but the 360 didn’t do that one first, and they weren’t even called triggers.
Guide Button: Like I said, you have to accept the ENTIRE industry if you’re going to do this. Nintendo has a “Home” button on the Wiimote. Did THEY copy Microsoft, too, or was that alright for them but not for Sony? And why is having that button a bad thing? You’re saying that the 360 is allowed to be able to get to the main menu but no one ELSE is?
Online Network: You really want Sony to go back to the mess that was the PS2’s online network (or whatever there WAS of one)?
In-Game XMB: So Sony isn’t allowed to respond to the calls of millions of PS3 owners that WANT that function?
Media Streaming: Not sure what you mean by this (as in, having access through a local network or on the internet or what?). If it’s the former, this would be both the 360 and the PS3 copying, oh, I’d say EVERY OTHER FUCKING COMPUTER KNOWN TO FUCKING MAN NOWADAYS!! Again, I don’t know what exactly you’re talking about with this.
If Sony is in this huge mess, then you’re basically saying that they are not allowed to answer any calls to FIX it. And you have double standards and inaccuracies all OVER the place.

darkpower reply on April 10th, 2008:
Sorry, I forgot that other point…the BR install. Remember that the BR technology is still rather new. Plus, I don’t hear anyone bitching about load times on DMC4 on the PS3 after installing it. Oh, and there was that little rumor in that “first GTA4 review” that the 360 version of GTA4 might require an install, as well. And that’s a DVD9 we’re talking about.
Here you are, whining about 25 minutes..uhh, how long do you wait to install DLC from XBL or PSN? How long on a PC? And you’re BITCHING that you might have to wait a little bit in exchange for zero load times WHILE playing the game? PLEASE!
[Reply]
Factoid reply on April 11th, 2008:
What you’re waiting for on DLC isn’t an installation, it’s the download time. I’m pretty sure everyone accepts and understand the idea of downloading being a requirement of DOWNLOADABLE content.
Once the download is finished you just fire it up…that’s all it takes. No post-download installer.
Also the load times aren’t zero, and nobody is bitching about having the OPTION to install to the hard drive, but it’s retarded that they are REQUIRING it.
[Reply]
Sony fanboys need to get over their PS controller obsession. ooh ive been playing on the PS controller my whole life, that’s a good enough reason to cover up for the fact that i just want to buy it for PS3 cuz im a sony fanboy ;.; cry me a fucking river, i understand that some people dont like the “bulkiness” of it(i personally dont find it bulky at all) but the 360 controller’s design is in a more natural and comfortable position than the PS3’s. “Meh” is right, Sony is a copycat, thank you for pointing those things out, you’ve opened my eyes even more. PC>360>wii>PS3

darkpower reply on April 10th, 2008:
SO because they feel more comfortable on one controller than the other, they are a fanboy?
Jesus, this fanboy label has been tossed around SO FUCKING MUCH!
You’re going to play it on the system that you have, and with the controller that is more comfortable to you. If that’s the 360 controller, then FINE! PS3 controller? GO RIGHT AHEAD!
But for the love of GOD, liking one controller over the other does NOT make you a fanboy of a system! It just means you like one controller over the other! THAT’S IT!
[Reply]
Wow…. PS3 fanboys unite!
This was actually a well though out article, props.
For one I got my Ps2 just for GTA 3 and my fun with that system mostly stopped there only the GTA series kept that system fun for me and when I got my X Box I was much more impressed with Graphics, Features, Controls, Games; and I don’t have any urge or reason to buy a Ps3. My 360 will suffice.
Every one ranting about how both versions are “Identical” are in denial because the Downloadable Content is a huge difference. And the biggest reason that people have minor troubles with XBL is the amount of people on it at once witch for a pay service is larger then free Ps3 online so the online experience is worth it and superior. While your playing w/ strangers on your Ps3 I will be having fun with all my friends on live instantly in GTA IV free roam listening to my own music.

I can see now that you wrote the blog at http://techspyblog.blogspot.com/ , since this sounds an awful lot like that same blog in how biased it is.
1 - I actually think the PS3 controller is very comfortable, and I haven’t had an issue with it since they came out with the design about ten years ago.
2 - You have a point with XBL, but the PSN servers haven’t done me any wrong yet, and the games I’ve played on there have run awfully smooth. Also, I’ve been reading several GTA message boards, and from what I’ve been seeing, many are deciding to get this game for the PS3 because of the familiarly of the game on a Sony system, the controller being familiar for the game, and because the hardware is more reliable. Coupled with the recent NPD sales figures in recent months and what has been labeled as the strongest lineup of the three systems this year, and you may be in for a surprise as to how many people you see on the PS3 version (more than what you’d think).
3 - Sony wasn’t at fault for the delay. They did say that they didn’t have a firm grasp of the cell language. That was more their fault. And if you want to use THAT argument, then you have to use the ENTIRE argument. The 360 was a cause for a later delay, so turnabout’s fair play.
4 - Who at Rockstar (I have yet to see an answer to this) ever said that Sony would not get DLC support for this game? Barrera never denied anything that PSW or OPM said about his words, so I have to think that they were telling the truth. And your quote on THIS issue came from a source that was questionable to begin with, and they already came out and said that the packs would add 10 hours of gameplay. We don’t know what Rockstar has in store for the future. They want the longevity of this game to last more than past GTA games. The 50 million dollar point is a drop in a bucket when compared to how much the GTA series has made Rockstar. Do you REALLY think Rockstar would get into ANY contract so restrictive and was written up by God Himself (I guess) so that there wouldn’t be any loopholes? I wouldn’t think so, and again, there was no confirmation from Rockstar that the PS3 wouldn’t get anything. Maybe Rockstar has something big planned for both systems. Home integration is a huge plus, as well.
5 - The custom soundtracks are coming in the summer for the PS3. They already confirmed that. MLB08: The Show already HAS that feature as a software function.
6 - So you, too, have condemned a gaming site for mentioning their opinion. My God, they were opinions. They weren’t stated as fact. So the PS3 versions of some games were judged as better by somebody. GET OVER IT!! Some sites will have good points to back up their claims, unlike you, whose claims actually can be debunked easily. Oh, and it’s not like this site has been exactly innocent at getting immature comments, either.
7 - WHAT install time (we never HEARD that yet from Rockstar. Where the hell are you GETTING these things from?)?
8 - According to Rockstar, both versions are, one, complete, and two, there will be nearly no difference in quality (the PS3 will have more anti-aliasing and a warmer color palette).
Now, as for the fanboy comments I will be getting because of this (I am sure I will), please remember that I have praised the 360 on a number of occasions as having a strong install base, having some good current games, and having a game I am interested in this year (Fable 2). While I don’t have one yet (I have a PS3 and a Wii), I intend to get one. I’ve been noticing that anyone who dares to say something good about the PS3 be labeled a fanboy regardless of how thought out, researched, or good their points are. Please, think about that before you respond.
[Reply]
I love the overaction by PS3 fans with the replies of “if I already own a PS3 then why would I get a 360″. Did you not read the article as it clearly states “considering what system they should be getting ” i.e. people who don’t own one.
As for the article. Controller comes down to personal preference. I don’t like the ps3 controller as using the shoulder buttons and the normal buttons at the same time can get tricky imo.
And the content is a timed exclusive so PS3 peeps are likely to wait a minimum of 12 months after August 2008. By that point the fuss will be over and the 360 players will be onto the second piece of DLC.
360 all the way. Its got more than 5 games worth buying as well

Every name has a meaning, I now know that Masashi stands for “Full of shit”. GTA should be equally enjoyable on either console. YOU should be more concerned with “can I play 4 hours without killing my 360″? Well at least you have the self proclaimed outstanding controller ergonomics to fiddle with while waiting to see if you receive a working replacement.
[Reply]
I’m just gonna throw in my 2 cents.
Let me start off by saying that I have both a PS3 and a 360.
My PS3 has had this high-pitched whine since day one.
It almost makes playing on it unbearable.
It is really, really bad. I called Sony about it and the guy told me that since I didn’t have a receipt, I would need to pay $150 to have it fixed. I told him that it was a known issue with the hardware and I offered to send him links to the forums that listed the bad batch of PS3’s serial numbers, but he didn’t want to hear about it. I called him a dickhead and I hung up on him.
I did get the RROD on my 360, but I also had a brand new one delivered to my house in less than a week.
I’m not saying I hate the PS3, but Sony can kiss my ass.
I have one game for the PS3. There are a few others I wouldn’t mind having, but the reason that I haven’t bought them is because the 360 has better games, so I spend my money on the 360 games.
If there is ever a game that comes out for both consoles, then I’ll be buying it for the 360.
If it is a must have game that only comes out for PS3 (GT 5), then I’ll get it for the PS3, but I’ll have to crank it to try and drown out that fucking loud ass whining noise.
