c|net comments on Take-Two and EA’s press manipulation… for serious…

c|net’s Dan Terdiman has written a public letter to both Electronic Arts and Take-Two, blasting them for using the gaming press to “negotiate” the buyout of Take-Two by EA.

I know it’s nothing new in the fast-paced world of hostile takeovers, tender offers, and other forms of mergers and acquisitions, but it’s beyond obvious that both Take-Two and EA are using the press–and our outreach to the public–to try to negotiate the best terms in whatever marriage the two eventually end up in.

First of all, I’m not sure where the “negotiation” was at. From what I understand, the “negotiations” boiled down to the following:

EA: Give us GTA IV.
T2: Go fuck yourself.

Secondly… c|net? The same c|net that owns (and also single-handedly destroyed) Gamespot? That’s just… adorable, in a… retarded kind of way. (Oh, I forgot Jason Ocampo, too)

You know, I had this long diatribe written about c|net, Gamespot and video game companies, but in the end Destructoid’s Jim Sterling summed it up better than I ever could:

“KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH KANE & LYNCH!

And I’m done.”
