Hi, I’m James Walker. I’m the current owner and executive editor of Binge Gamer, and yes, I gave myself those titles. I’m really bad at talking about myself, so I’ll try to keep this brief.
Personal Bio:
I own five cats, a girlfriend and a dog, whom you’ve probably seen before. I also am a huge fan of Hong Kong action movies, and consider myself both a die hard Star Wars nerd, and a green-blooded Trekkie. Oh, and I read comic books, play D&D and can recite, from memory, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.
Professional Bio:
I staretd writing back in 1999. I was 12 at the time and ran a little POS website that I made using Homestead, back when they offered a free service. The site was more or less a blog before blogs became blogs, and I did all the editing using Microsoft Frontpage… because I was an idiot. Over time, I went and founded “The Swab Company” and continued to update the site, along with a couple of friends, until I finally called it quits in November of 2006.
While I was doing TSC in my free time, I was also going to school and writing for other websites. My first venture into video games was in 2003, with the G4 Estrogen Brigade. It was more or less an unofficial, all-girls fanclub for the new (at the time) G4TV. I had the official title of “male slave”, which was just peachy. After G4 asked that the G4EB not be the G4EB, and some behind-the-scenes drama with the co-founders that I won’t even pretend to understand, I left to write for Joychix.
Joychix, as you could have probably surmised, was another website that catered to the girl gamer. I wrote for them, writing reviews as well as compiling a complete library of previous consoles (including every North American arcade cabinet) and games. I left Joychix in mid 2004 for personal reasons, and focused on school.
In 2005, I joined the US Army. That’s all I really have to say about that.
In January, 2007 I applied for a job at 451 Press, more or less on a whim. I was hired, and started writing for Xbox 360 Rally. By the following April, X3R was the fastest growing website on the network, and by July it was the #1 traffic draw on the entire network. In March, 2007, after some email correspondence over a contest prize never received (long story) I met Mike and we’ve worked together ever since.
In August, 2007 I started doing double-duty for 451, running both Xbox 360 Rally and the site that it conquered to become #1, 1PStart. 1PStart had gone far downhill after its editor tried to pick a fight with Destructoid over Digg manipulation, and Mike and I were responsible for returning the site to its former glory.
In January, 2008 I left 451 and started planning Binge Gamer. As I was considering quitting, I was writing for GAMER.BLORGE, as well as doing freelance work for both Unreel Media and ABContent, the later of which I still edit work for.
On March 1st, 2008, Binge Gamer officially launched and while it has already been a fair success, there is still a lot of work to do.
