Guitar Hero vs Rock Band vs…Disney!?
Disney has now decided to enter the rhythm market with a new franchise called, Ultimate Band. Coming to only the Wii and DS for now, Fall Line Studios is handling the development of the game (makers of the great Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Spectrobes II, and Hannah Montana 3). The most interesting part is no guitars, mics, or drums will be used for the game, you will be using the Wiimote and the Stylus as your instruments.
Don’t think ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is the best song to add to your playlist? Don’t worry, so far the only two songs GameInformer has listed for their Exclusive Info on the game is Devo’s “Whip It” and the Raconteurs’ “Steady as She Goes” (Yes, I still have no White Stripes for Rock Band, yet Jack White has gone to Disney.. bah).
How will this game work out? Well, with the Disney name behind it, I have no doubt it will fare well. For gamers though, I think unless the tracklist can be beefed up with so many licensed songs you enjoy, I would still avoid this game until they announce that the game is compatible with Rock Band/Guitar Hero instruments. Air drumming cannot be as fun as actually pounding out on Rock Band drums. Luckily for Disney though, Rock Band not being out on the Wii (yet) gives them a pretty good advantage.
