Xbox 360 RRoD’s at GDC
What is the worst thing that can happen to a company at a big convention like the Game Developers Conference? Without question, the worst press you can get for your product is to have it not work, and during a giant media and industry get together like the GDC such an incident could put a stain on your whole weekend.
Unless you’re Microsoft, where the Red Ring of Death with your Xbox 360 consoles have become so common that rather than bringing Microsoft’s entire campaign to a screeching halt, it is nothing more than a minor convenience.
The discovery was made by BBC editor Darren Waters who was more than happy to put a video of it on the internet.
Now again, had this been Nintendo or even Sony, this probably would be a big deal. But this is Microsoft, who not only has been through this before (Windows 98 BSoD’d on Bill Gates during a presentation at Comdex), and it’s the Xbox 360, a console that, frankly, we’ve come to expect this from.
