Xbox 360 Buyer Experiences “A Series of Unfortunate Events”
In the aftermath of our story about the poor bastard from the University of Evanston who had his Xbox 360 swiped and replaced with the good, reliable Xbox of old, I came across a forum post over at Houston-Imports. Here’s the story:
Target was having a deal where if you bought both an Xbox 360 Pro and a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV , you would receive a $50 Gift Card. Thinking it was a good deal, our noble protagonist goes down to his local Target and picks up the Xbox 360 Pro and GTA IV. He buys the console and game, goes home, unboxes the machine and… well, I’ll let him explain:
The X-Box was fucking gutted. All that’s in there? All the cables and whatnot, the case, and inside that, the book “A Series of Unfortunate Events. #7″ I am sooo going to get an Elite when I take it back tomorrow. I AM PISSED! Pics to come shortly.
Sure enough, he posted several pictures of the Xbox 360 in question in which you can clearly see the books inside:
How bad does it suck to be that guy? Not only does he NOT get to play Grand Theft Auto IV because his Xbox 360 was gutted and replaced with Lemony Snicket, but how the hell do you explain that to people at Target and Microsoft? Either way, at least he has something to read while he’s waiting for Microsoft to “fix” it.

damm u ps drone…fuck u ..may ur xbox360 gets rroded life time..and u suck ur cock

Um… who the hell is that directed at, exactly? If it’s me, I am ashamed to inform you that my Xbox 360 not only RRoD’d back in February, but I still haven’t gotten it back.

Well, at least he got a good book, rather than a crappy one. Although, #7 was not the best in the series…

more than likely, this was the cause of someone buying the 360, gutting it, and returning it back to target and them putting it right back on the shelf and selling it. i work at best buy, and when we get returned game consoles, they get sent back to the manufacturer.. we WILL NOT sell them after they have been returned, opened or not, they get sent back…i blame this one on Target.. best buy ran the same promo, he should have went there.

I worked the past two years at Target in St. Louis Missouri. This happens quite a bit and it is actually the PS3 that it happens most with. Those parts gutted are worth quite a bit of cash if you know the right people looking for them. Some people will also do it if they are into modding and what not. The reason it happens with the PS3 more is that you can put the case back together and conceals what is, or in this case what isn’t inside. Targets now should make you return everything back to the electronics department and the electronic’s clerk is required to check them. These guys would then simply return them when they knew it was really busy or they send a buddy in to check out games until the electronics guy goes to break and then the photo person(usuall a girl) is the electronics person…you do the math from there.

Buy a ps3. Problem solved.

Yet another example of why you shoulda bought a PS3. If you buy another XBOX 360, I will thank you for spending an additional $50 a year to play on-line especially since you could get that free with a PS3.

Jon reply on June 1st, 2008:
compare ps3s online service to xbox and you’ll understand that paying the 50 is very worth the cost.

Poor Guy. Well, at least he’ll have a book to read until he gets his Xbox 360 back. At least, the gutter was considerate.

wtf is with all the “you shoulda bought ps3″ comments?
Maybe the guy wanted to play some games… not movies
