Nintendo is Polluting Oceans and Melting the Ice Caps, says Greenpeace

Greenpeace has released their latest scores for what they call “green” electronics companies, rating just about every major electronics manufacturer on a ten-point basis. The higher the company’s score, the more environmentally friendly they are. Not surprising anyone, Samsung and Toshiba are tied with scores of 7.7 each. Who brought up the rear, though?

Nintendo, with a score of 0.3. Apparently, in the eyes of Greenpeace Nintendo is clubbing baby seals, beaching oil tankers, letting fully-gassed H2s idle on the freeway and eating bald eagles. Greenpeace does give Nintendo credit for, quote, “tiny improvements” but ultimately gives Nintendo the lowst score on their list. The second lowest score? Philips, with a 4.3. That’s right, Greenpeace has Nintendo 4 full points behind the next company on their list.

Philips wasn’t alone with the measly below-5 score, oh no. Microsoft wasn’t too far ahead of Philips with its quaint 4.7, citing Microsoft’s improved timeline (2010) for the elimination of toxic chemicals.

So now we know that, through the process of elimination, Sony is the most eco-friendly console manufacturer out there. But just how clean is Sony?

Pretty clean, actually. They scored a 7.3, earning this score for their continued efforts in eliminating PVC from their products. Rock on, Sony.

So let us summarize where each of the consoles stand, as far as their environmental friendliness goes:

  1. They gave Nintendo that score because Nintendo does not share any of that information. Thats why they got a 0 last time. They wont tell greenpeace anything. Im surprised they got more than a 0 this time.
