When it finally became official (after about ten years of rumor and speculation) that Scorpion and Sub-Zero would be battling Batman and (*snicker*) Aquaman in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, many assumed that this would be the death of the ultra-bloody, ultra-entertaining Fatalities. Speaking with GameTap, Ed Boon takes this belief to task with a resounding “kinda”.

What Boon said, in fact, was that the Fatalities would be toned down, but not removed entirely. What it sounds like, to me anyways, is that instead of removing Fatalities entirely and taking a large part of what seperates MK from the rest of the fighter crowd, Midway is simply neutering Fatalities so their new friends at DC Comics don’t get butt-hurt over seeing Superman’s head pop like a zit.

Ed, if you’re as cool as we always thought you were… go against DC’s wishes. Let us dunk the Green Lantern in acid, or play Wonder Woman’s ribcage like a xylophone. It’s your duty as an American, Ed.
