Promising a classic 2D side-scrolling adventure, Sega returns to the roots of Sonic the Hedgehog. The game previously dubbed Project Needlemouse has been confirmed as Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.
Unlike the series’ most recent offerings, this installment closely resembles the original Genesis games. In a GameSpot interview Sega associate brand manager Ken Balough revealed that several iconic Sonic abilities—including power sneakers—will be present and fully usable. Sonic 4 will make use of motion controllers in both its Wii and PS3 versions. It is also being released for the Xbox 360.
The game will be available for download on all systems this summer, but fans should keep an eye out for future titles. Remember, this is Episode 1. More will follow.
