This is Why Boycotts Fail

One of the favorite things that jaded gamers like to do is hold boycotts against a particular product. They called for a boycott against Final Fantasy XIII because Square Enix had the audacity to release it on Xbox 360. They called for a boycott against Diablo III because it was, le gasp, “too colorful“. They tried to boycott Left 4 Dead 2and failed after Valve flew the two masterminds behind the temper tantrum to their offices to show how awesome Left 4 Dead 2 was.

Most recently, they called for a boycott of Modern Warfare 2 because the PC version did not have dedicated servers and map caps at 9 vs.9.

This is why the Modern Warfare 2 boycott has officially failed:

Now of course one must ask how many of these people acquired the game through legal means but even still — if you’re going to sign a boycott against a game, don’t play the damn game. This is why you fail.
