Take ‘StarCraft 101′ at UC Berkeley

Colleges and Universities having weird or otherwise pointless classes is nothing new. However, those hippies at UC Berkeley have one-upped everybody and in the process have created the single greatest class: StarCraft 101.

Games have been used as tools in other classes to help demonstrate a particular point. Hell, my Political Science professor used The Political Machine to outline the electoral college. However, this class at UC Berkeley doesn’t serve a higher purpose. It mearly exists to teach you how to better yourself at StarCraft.

From the course description:

What may look like complex topics are just ways we want you to think more deeply about the game to derive a greater satisfaction from playing. Furthermore, this understanding should have applications in real life, to further synthesize new information from limited inferences.

I mock San Francisco quite a bit for being a bit… what’s the word… oh, yeah. “Crazy”. But this time I think it’s safe to say their madness has paid off big time. Even if this does only reaffirm why Americans are dumber than most other industrialized nations.
