Sony Could Lose $3bn, Games Division to Lose $337m

ps3-part-of-the-problem

I know this isn’t exactly news, but Sony is having a pretty bad year. Earlier they posted an operating loss of roughly $1 billion and now we’ve discovered that Sony’s games division is expected to lose something in the area of $337 million. The loss is being blamed by lower than expected sales of both the PS3 hardware and some key games (*coughMGS4cough*).

But that’s not the worst of it for Sony. Remember that $1 billion number that was mentioned a second ago? Yeah, that number has now ballooned to nearly $3 billion.

While many 360 fanboys will be quick to point to the underwhelming numbers of Sony’s games division and say something idiotic like “PlayStation is killing Sony lololololol”, the real problem for Sony was and is their terrible television sales. In fact, just about every facet of Sony has seen a decline in fiscal 2008, from TVs to digital cameras, it seems that everything Sony has touched in 2008 lost them money.

Even Sony Pictures underperformed. I guess quality films like Made of Honor and The House Bunny just didn’t bring in the same green as Spider-Man, eh?
