Rumor Has It… Super Ultra Mega Hyper PS3 Firmware Update By March’s End

xmb-27

Rumor has it that the next big PlayStation 3 firmware update will be ready for mass consumption by the end of March.

The rumor stems from a slip of the tongue from a couple of reps for Psyonix Studios (Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle-Cars), who announced that Sony had planned to release their next firmware patch “later this month”.

In a forum post (that has since been removed), a rep was responding to complaints of a bug in their latest PSN title, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle-Cars (that is so fun to say). Here are the two quotes taken directly from the thread (which has since been removed), courtesy of CVG:

Rep #1: Sony mentioned a bug they fixed with the next system software update (2.7.0) that might resolve these issues, but we have to narrow it down and verify it’s the same problem to be sure it’s that and not something we need to fix on our end.

Rep #2: IIRC it will drop later this month. And contain lots of fun new fixes. I’m excited about this one, lots of new stuff.

Fictional Rep #3: Dude… shut up.

About a month ago word began to spread regarding a list of firmware updates that were rumored to be included with 2.7. Rather than post them here, I’ll simply link you to a list of them and only say this: If 2.7 doesn’t have backwards compatibility, it fails.

Period.

  1. I just bought a slim PS3 and traded in my older version. I must say it is a lot quiter than its predecessor, and it only cost me £10 after trade in! Mind you I did down size the hard drive to 80GB :/. Meh, I’ll never need the space anyway haha. Cheers.
