I am well known for giving Nintendo a lot of shit — much of it quite deserved. However, this time I have to give Nintendo respect for an act of kindness that you just don’t see too often from video game companies.
21-year-old GoNintendo reader who calls himself “PsyduckWarrior” (Psyduck? Really?) lost his home on September 19th, 2008 to a fire. Thankfully nobody was injured as PsyduckWarrior and his parents were all at work at the time. However, after the flames had died out the family had the arduous task of sifting through their remains to make an inventory of what was lost.
I’ll let PsyduckWarrior go through his list:
My list, when it was done, included more than 250 Nintendo games spanning all their consoles, every Nintendo console, almost all accessories, every Gameboy iteration, a DS…I had a lot of Nintendo stuff…including a working Virtual Boy and a Gameboy Light (a Japanese Gameboy Pocket with a backlight). My collection wasn’t very extensive but it had some things that most people wouldn’t. My mom also owned a Wii and a DS and a few games, which were lost as well (in fact, the fire was so hot in the living room that there was no trace of her gaming stuff…it had been completely melted and just dissipated).
About a month later PsyduckWarrior contacted Nintendo to ask about suspending his WiiWare account until he could get a new Wii. He explained what had happened with his home and how his Nintendo memorabilia was destroyed, and even included images of the destroyed systems.
A few weeks later a few reps from Nintendo contacted PsyduckWarrior to check up on his family, which is infinitely cool. What is even more amazing, though, is the fact that Nintendo offered to replace PsyduckWarrior’s Wii and Game Boy Advance SP free of charge.
While we’re all happy to hear that Nintendo would do something like this, I feel compelled to complain about something regarding Nintendo… ah, I got it!

I guess they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

Poor guy, he lost everything. this is really sad to learn about it
Ok, this is really sad for the guy, if its true. It seems a bit odd that he had all this memrobillia that hadnt melted so bad, but the wii melted so much that there was no traces of it?
I find that abit hard to believe.
