Neversoft Abandoning ‘Tony Hawk’ Franchise

tony-hawk

There comes a point in every gaming franchise where the original developer has to take a step back and say “we can’t do any more”. For Tony Hawk developer Neversoft, that time has come.

Speaking with the Great Falls Tribune, Neversoft president Joel Jewett has confirmed that his company will no longer be trying to ring every last penny out of the Tony Hawk franchise.

From the Great Falls Tribune:

Neversoft plans to release more sequels to the “Guitar Hero” series — including the much-ballyhooed “Guitar Hero: Metallica” set for release during the first quarter of this year — but the company has let the Tony Hawk series go to another developer.

“It’s probably best for the franchise … it’s time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it,” Jewett said.

The early Tony Hawk titles were freaking fantastic. But once they tried to shoehorn a plot and force us to experience the likes of Bam Margera, the franchise lost a lot of it’s charm.

Let’s hope that whoever takes over will be able to come up with some new, fresh ideas for the franchise — and please, no flick controls.

I’ll say exactly what I said on the PN post of this news. Bring me a compilation disc of HD remakes for the first three or four Tony Hawk games (some of the best and memorable levels).

And Neversoft, get back Tony Hawk and STOP doing the Guitar Hero series. Dammit.
