Even though Midway is living on borrowed time, that hasn’t stopped them from working on a brand new entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise. How do we know that they’re working on a new Mortal Kombat game, you ask?

Because, Ed Boon said so.

In a press release issued by Midway which announces that the company has shipped 1.8 million copies of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Ed Boon is quoted as saying that his team is already “hard at work” on their next game.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was the result of countless hours of hard work by many people, and seeing the game surpass the million-seller plateau makes it worth all the effort… We’re already hard at work on our next version of Mortal Kombat, and look forward to being able to reveal more details in the future.

Of course, Boon may be blowing smoke up our collective ass and just saying they’re working on a new MK game to calm stockholders nerves. Either way, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Mortal Kombat, but I think I can speak for just about everybody when I say… bring back the gore or I’m not gonna care.
