Wedbush Morgan analyst and 2004 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champion* Michael Pachter believes that the golden price point for the PlayStation 3 moving forward will be $299.
Frankly, I think $299 is a sweet spot, as it is $100 above the old sweet spot for a box that has Internet connectivity and high-definition video playback built in,†Pachter said. “Those features are certainly worth something, and consumers aren’t completely oblivious.
Pachter went on to adjust his earlier statements that Sony would cut their prices in April, saying now that Sony could cut the PS3 price in September or October.
They probably won’t really cut in April (that was my early April Fool’s joke), but they should seriously consider making a move as soon as they can afford it….
My guess is that they’ll be able to afford a cut by October, and will cut earlier than that in anticipation of their cost of production coming down. I picked April as the beginning of the fiscal year, but it could be June (E3), September (TGS), holiday, or not at all. If they don’t cut, they had better prepare themselves to run a distant third in sales once again.
I’m with Pachter on this one. A.) He’s smarter than me. B.) It makes sense, especially considering that Sony just posted a $1.1B (which stands for “Billion”, kiddies) loss. C.) I want to sound smart.

Pachter is an idiot. He claims Wii Sports should not be bundled with the Wii http://www.wiiwii.tv/2008/01/30/michael-pachter-is-an-ass-nintendo-should-unbundle-wii-sports/
Sony is the leader this gen, with Wii coming in third (hahahahhahahah)
World of Warcraft is a fad.
HD graphics will be essential (again, see the #1 leader.. the Wii) http://www.gamersquad.com/category/All-News/Michael-Pachters-Most-Inaccurate-Predictions/
PS3 is going to drop their price this summer ! (2007) http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/05/15/analyst-predicts-price-cut-for-the-ps3-this-summer/ .. on top of how many other times he has said this.
“The digital distribution model is probably going to be extremely limited, and packaged products will likely rule for a long time. Digital downloads are not portable (you can’t take [them] over to your friend’s house), can’t be sold at garage sales, are limited to broadband households, and take up a disproportionate amount of disk space. I think that this will not approach more than 20% of the market for the next ten years or so.” – http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20060911/wen_02.shtml
He also feels that online gaming is a risk.. http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2006/01/first-michael-pachter-post-of-2006.html “At the end of the day, we don’t play games for social interaction … We play games to escape.” Microsoft’s strategy is “absolutely flawed,” ….hahahaha
Pachter is the biggest joke ever, don’t ever claim he is smarter than you.. EVER… don’t insult yourself.
