MegaCon 2009: Free Stuff For You

Having attended many many (many) MegaCon’s in the past, I really feel that this little Orlando geek convention has hit a nice stride. At first I came for the comics, and kept coming despite the growing number of anime fans. But then came the video game fans, card gamers, RPGers, wrestlers, actors, playmates, and as years have passed, it is really becoming the east coast retarded cousin of the San Diego Comic Con (we have belly dancing at our cons, eat that Cali!)

Well Binge Gamer wants you to have a little taste of MegaCon by offering up some goods. Goods so good I am re-thinking this whole “give away stuff to people who are checking your site” idea. Here is what I have to offer you:

1 – A T-Shirt and Poster Combo. This is no regular shirt my friend, this is art from a talented chick who goes by the name rocketshoes. This poster, probably not licensed by Nintendo… should be. It is classic. Hell, it has Banjo in it (click pic to enlarge). The artist Matt Tichenor signed it and I have only unrolled it the one time to take the picture of it, it is safely in a tube behind locked doors.

2 – A “Nightgig” comic. What is this comic and why do you want it? It is because it is a collection of a bunch of webcomics from people who you would love if you were given a strip. XKCD, Cyanide & Happiness, Penny Arcade, etc etc.. all started out probably with the help of something like Nightgig and their “Gigcast” (webcomics podcast). So the above collection is great for any indie comic reader, nine different comics, an uncountable amount of strips within those nine.

3 – “Donkey Kong” original pencil/inked work by Kenny Durkin. I am a fan of video game art, if you are too, then you possibly have wood (or are moist) from that DK picture. This baby is ready (and needing) to be framed.

4 – Sonic the Hedgehog original pencil/inked pages that were actually used in the comics. Yes, the original pages. You can click that above image to see it larger. I know there is many a Sega nerd out there who would love just one of those two pages. So what I am doing, is going to only give out one right now, and the other will be given away during Binge Gamer’s upcoming one year anniversary. So whoever wins, will get to choose one of the pictures and also get The Sonic Sketchbook (by Tracy Yardley, the penciler of the pages).

Now you know what the four packages are… what do you have to do to win?

First, pick what you want (you can only win one thing).

Second, tell me what your favorite cosplayer was from Megacon by commenting below (it does not have to be a video game related cosplayer).

An example comment:
I want the dk art. The Fluttering Horde from day 2 was the best cosplay!

Only one entry per person. Make sure you have a valid email. Odds of what you get are based on how many people try for whatever swag you are going for. I honestly don’t mind shipping outside of the United States, so foreigners are welcome to comment.

Need to see the cosplay pics? Here is Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.

Comments will close on March 15th at 11:59PM.

I want the poster!!! And I thought Speed Racer was the best cosplay…the gloves were a perfect touch and the shirt was adorable! The pose is the finishing blow for a great costume!

  2. Evan says:

T-Shirt/Poster combo. Hmmm, there were a number I thought were pretty good, but I think I preferred the Altair cosplay 3 images down on Day 2.

He did a pretty good job on the design. The material looks too synthetic though, but eh, it would be unreasonable to expect someone to work with, and wear, cloth.

  3. Austin Hicks says:

T-Shirt/Poster combo! That poster is awesome!

I really like the Midna girls from Day 1. Awesome idea to go as both her forms.

  4. Sil says:

Nintendo Character Poster, that’s an amazing poster!

I thoughts the Jack Skellington costume was amazingly well done, his height was pretty crazy!

  5. raj says:

Matt Tichenor’s Nintendo Poster is what I’d want.

Honestly my favorite would probably be the Buckethead cosplay if only because I’ve never seen a Buckethead cosplayer before in my life.

  6. Randi says:

Who doesn’t want the poster?! In my defense, though, it’d be for my 8 year old son, who is a Nintendo freak. He has almost all of the Mario games (from old school to the latest ones) and loves Link as well. He is so addicted to them that my husband is going to get a tattoo of a Mario hat with my son’s name under it.

My favorite costume would be the two women who were Midna – I love that they were both midget Midna and sexy Midna!

  7. Brian says:

The guy in the box is the best, day 1. I wouldn’t mind getting that poster.

  8. Jimmy says:

I’ll go for the DK Sketch. It is pretty sick. I must say though, the nintendo poster is awesome, and that would be my first choice, but everyone is choosing it!

My favorite costume is the Team Fortress group.

  9. Heath Flor says:

I want the Donkey Kong pencil!

My favorite was Travis Touchdown on page 1. Beam kitana FTW!!! BTW LEGOS rule!

  10. mrhankey says:

    the t shirt/poster combo , that’s an epic loot $$ !!!
my favorite is the “portal cube” from day 2 .

  11. Charlie says:

    T-shirt/poster combo

My fav would have to be the Midnas from day 1. Props to Phoenix Wright on day 2, made me lol.

  12. G-Man says:

    T-Shirt/Poster combo.

Wario from Day 2 is win.

  13. Dionel says:

Sonic the Hedgehog original pencil/inked pages

Mario with a giant mallet AND lightsaber did it for me. Awesome.

  14. Jared R says:

I’d love the DK art. As for favorite cosplay, I’d say Wario from Day 2. It’s like he just jumped out of the game and fell into a Salvation Army induced acid trip!

  15. dwigg says:

I would pick the sonic comic. I thought that the team fortress guys/girls was the best. The guy in the blue suit looked like he fell out of the game!

  16. Pendelton says:

Oh, God, gimmie that sonic comic!!!

Also, the Henchmen from Venture Brotehrs are pretty damn spiffy. Any cosplayer doing Venture stuff is tops in my book!

  17. Lando W says:

I’d like the T-Shirt Poster Combo if I do win.

I think the best Cosplay was the Mario guy with the cape, he looks like he’s so excited to be at MegaCon while flying in his cape haha. Maybe I’ll go next year!

  18. Russell says:

I’d like the sonic sketchbook. Day 1 had some amazing cosplay such as Speed Racer and Hard Gay, but the Burger King cosplay is my favorite.

  19. Fred says:

I would like the DK art, and the best cosplay was Wolverine in the Delorian. There is something funny about mixing those two franchises together.

  20. Kori-Maru says:

I’m Kori-Maru (Patrick Gardner) from Sega Nerds.

I like the Sketch book Tracy made.

I would have to pick the Speed Racer cosplayer, because he made the perfect look and pose.

Plus, I hope Tracy Yardley to visits me again for my graduation so I can talk to him about the Sonic comic series.

Here’s a picture of Sonic he drew me at my grandmother’s house last Christmas.

    T-Shirt/Poster Combo. Definitely.

The Iron Man costume on Day 2 looks most impressive overall.

Pedobear from day 1 has to be the best… I mean look at his pose =D.

  30. Ricky says:

    Sonic the Hedgehog original pencil/inked

Dr Rockzo cosplay, i have to laugh every time i see him.

  31. JohnJ says:

I’m gonna try for the Sonic Sketches since i have no where to put the poster anyway. My favorite cosplay was the black Altair from Day 1.

  32. joseph says:

    -Daniel from socal

  39. Fullmetalfan720 says:

I thought Godot from Day 1 was the best, and I would really like to win the original Sonic artwork.

  40. Shane R. says:

I would say Bob Ross from day one was the best because God knows the suffering he endured while growing his afro out. Sign me up for the nightgig comics, because someone has to try for them.

My brother also entered this contest, does that mean I’ll have to sit this one out?

  41. Chris Snyder says:

Day 2 – portal cube cosplay.

  48. Alan says:

That is some nice swag there.

My favorite cosplayer had to be the person doing the “King” from Burger King.

As for what I’d like if I won. It’s a tough choice between the DK drawing and the Nintendo collage and t-shirt. But I’d have to go with the DK drawing. They’re both amazing, though.

Thanks for the contest, and nice Megacon pictures. I’ll have to look into going next year since I live nearby.

  49. Brian says:
