MegaCon 2009 – Day 1 – Video Game Cosplay and More

[Megacon Pictures: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3]

Much like recent trips to EA’s Champions of Gaming and Otronicon events, I will post full thoughts on the day but I will leave it at the end so you can enjoy some good old video game cosplay first. Remember folks, they can’t all be winners (this is just Friday’s batch, I will be posting Saturday and Sunday asap, so look for those two posts coming up soon, as well as some sweet swag which I haven’t figured out how to give away just yet).

Now some quick notes about Megacon this year. Friday was far busier than I thought it would be, with a lot more costumed fans than I have noticed in the past. The big comic book names were doing what they do best, signing comics, talking to fans (between Friday and Saturday I must have talked with Brandon Peterson for at least a half hour). I did notice something different about this con than others I have gone to, straight up spam tables. I understand booths can be bought by any merchant, but when Sprint and “Happy Feet” get involved, it sort of sucks the geek right out of you.

But then something as bad ass as Coliseum of Comics booth makes everything better.

Among the stars of the comic book world, there were a fair amount of random geek and non-geek related television/movie stars, all ready to take a picture of you for $20 (oh how the mighty Ferigno has fallen). Stars included non-humans as well, I was happily surprised to see Bender getting respect in the robot world.

Gaming only got a little bit of love in the corner of the convention center, with about 10 or 12 screens. Mostly 360’s, I noticed one PS3 (playing Resistance 2), and of course it just had to be there to ruin my mood, the DDR pad.

Video games were not the only games though, there had to be at least 20+ tables with serious faced card players.

Enough of this LiveJournal entry about my day at MegaCon, you want more pictures of people in costumes, don’t you!

Ask and ye shall receive..

(BOB ROSS COSPLAY!)

I’d like to make a note at this time, there had to be at least 5 Rorschach’s on Friday alone, so here is one to represent them all as they really all basically looked the same.

Dude. Bob Ross cosplay ROCKS, as to the Left 4 Dead people. I mean, they look pretty much like the hunters/witch from the game…it would be fucking scary to see someone dressed up as a hunter on the street after dark.

  2. Joe Littrell says:

Fun Fact: The red Hulk at the Coliseum booth was green less than 24 hours before the start of MegaCon.

That is actually pretty neat info, job well done whoever bought all the red paint on short notice.

Now tell your people to open the Hiawassee/Old Winter Garden store back up again, I swear I’ll start going (I only get to see Coliseum at Megacon’s now it seems). The Ocoee area has no comic book shops, tell your people Mr Littrell! Using the West Oaks Mall as a starting point, the nearest comic shop is either Bad Apple next to the Florida Mall or Acme Comics in Altamonte, both 20+ min drives away :(

Luckily, being a major miniatures game supplier, we have a couple of very talented painters on staff…

  4. Was there Fri and Sat I had a blast so to speak .
my favorite guest I saw there was Lucianna Carro .
She was a true beauty as well as a blessing .
Thankyou Megacon 2009 see you in 2010 positively .
Live Long and Prosper .Does anyone have the time ?
Ask a Watchmen . See you in a year .
