When the slew of delays over the summer began to be announced, it became apparent that Q1 2010 was the new Q4 2009. Not to say that delaying their games until the first part of 2010 to avoid the Uncharted 2/Modern Warfare 2 was a bad idea. Hell, from a business standpoint it would have been a damn smart move if not for the fact that everybody else was thinking the exact same thing.
Now we’re seeing games that were either originally slated for or pushed back to Q1 2010 being delayed further because in an attempt to clear up the Christmas logjam publishers created a New Years logjam. It seems that the latest victim of this is Max Payne 3, which has officially been pushed back to Fiscal Q4 2010.
In common people speak, that’s between August and October of 2010.
As anybody who has ever seen my internet handle can attest, I am a giant fan of the Max Payne franchise, yet I find myself torn on this news. On one hand, I’m disappointed that the long-awaited third entry in the series won’t be in my hands for close to another year. On the other hand, I really don’t like the direction the series has taken and, I admit, a miniscule part of me would rejoice if the game were canceled simply so that I wouldn’t have to see my favorite franchise be disgraced.
But the rest of me knows that I’ll still buy the damn thing, even if it winds up as the worst game of 2010.
