The “ever-noble” GameStop is offering gamers an exclusive chance to play the Killzone 2 demo before the game’s February 27th release—provided you pre-order it.
Now, in my opinion demos are typically used to convince people to buy a game. I remember the good ol’ days of the PlayStation demo discs, and how they helped me to avoid many a sucky title while showing me some I would have missed otherwise (e.g. Omega Boost).
Certainly, while Killzone 2 looks like it’s going to be sweet, taking away the “try it before you buy it” factor really seems to contradict the core concept behind a demo. Wouldn’t it be ideal to release the demo to everyone, so more people are likely to pre-order and buy the game because they’ve tried it and liked it?
I guess I’m just old fashioned that way.
Anyway, if you are one of those who are certain they’ll be buying Killzone 2 and just can’t wait to get your fix, all GameStop pre-orders will be e-mailed the code for the demo on or after February 3. The rest of us will just have to wait until the demo’s PSN release after Killzone 2’s launch.
