GameX 09: Interview – Robin Herbst of Fenix Down

Courtesy of Fenix Downs official band MySpace

Fenix Down is one of those bands that seems to find influence from just about everywhere. Taking inspiration not only from alternative rock bands like Tool and Linkin Park, the group also draws from a massive pool of video game music, with games like Final Fantasy (the band name is totally a FFVI refrence, btw) and The Legend of Zelda impacting their sound.

The result is an epic sonic experience that doesn’t waste time dabbling over the same riff again and again. Instead, Fenix Down produces elaborate orchestrations that explore the furthest reaches possible. Each tune is catchy and sounds completely unique from its brethren, something that’s pretty damn refreshing considering the number of artists that will fill an album with twelve of the same track, giving each uninspired tune a different title (I’m looking at you, Nickelback).

Anyway, check out this spiffy two-part interview featuring yours truly and, while you’re at it, give Fenix Down a listen at their official band MySpace and the band website.
