Yesterday we passed along the upsetting news that Microsoft would be slashing 5,000 jobs in the next year and a half, with 1,400 coming “tomorrow”. Well, “tomorrow” is now “today” and we have an idea of where the bulk of these cuts are being made.
According to ZD Tech Blogger Mary Jo Foley (or, to be more exact, her source) the majority of Microsoft’s cuts are being made in the Entertainment and Devices Division — the division that brings you quality products like Windows Mobile, Zune and this little white box called the Xbox 360. We don’t know how many of the 1,400 jobs will come from the E&D, but we do know of at least two: Chris Paladino and Nelson Rodriguez.
If those names sound familiar, it’s because you probably read the Gamerscore Blog on a regular basis… before Microsoft shut it down.
Other cuts that have all but been confirmed come from the terrorist flight simulator studio responsible for Microsoft Flight Simulator. According to sources speaking with Gamasutra, most if not the entire studio responsible for the long running flight sim franchise has been shitcanned.
All that can be said is that we hope everybody who woke up with a “GTFO” slip on their desk lands on their feet.

That’s some f***ed up stuff there Mr. James(Day)Walker, I mean what are you trying to imply?
Terrorist actually used that game as a simulator. I have a co-worker that is Muslim and though I think at times he’s going to blow us up one day, he’s yet to tell me that his friends like playing flight simulators. Though he did tell me that some of his friends who were pilots weren’t interested in landing hmm!
Maybe there’s a connection there!
That sucks about Paladino. I mean, sucks for everybody else out of a job as well, but I know of his work with the blog and he posts on GAF too.
