Binge Gamer at FX Show in Orlando

Making sure I cover every single event that happens in Orlando, I couldn’t let FX Show get looked over, even though I had never been to one. If you don’t want the LiveJournal’ish account of my day at FX Show, scroll down to see what most come for, the cosplay.

My day starts out interesting. There is a Rock Band tournament, and so I must play. My friend has the pictures right now, so I’ll move on until I get those uploaded (if you are interested, my band came in 2nd).

I enjoy talking with comic artists. I met a favorite of mine, Jim Mahfood. Here is a sample of his art that he did for i am 8 bit.

I walk around. There was a gentleman selling basically roms and emulators on disc. Saying it is legal of course. I messed with him a bit, I know he is just the guy running the stand, but still as much as I know we all may have played a rom or two, selling is just wrong.

And now, some random pictures:

And this guy.. “the man”

I would also like to mention a random company that I wanted to get Swag for you all from. They made video game novelty shirts. Instead, the guy gave me a shirt with their company name… but hey, here is a site plug anyways, they were cool people http://www.glitchgear.com/ and have shirts you probably would want to buy.

Now on to the cosplay. Let’s start with games, then comics…then the rest. Remember folks, they all can’t be winners!

Meh, so gaming wasn’t FX Show’s thing I guess, so let’s see comics, where I really fell good costumes were represented:

Of course Spock was there (charging $65 a signature btw), so Trekkies were representing.

Now, just the rest:

I have a special note about this last picture, this guy comes to every con. I’ve seen him four times.

Here you can see him from my Destructoid Blog from Megacon 2008

I’m proud and scared to see a kid brought up in the con lifestyle. But I love it, so who am I to judge. I think FX Show is going to be bigger next year. There were lots of deal tables, but lots of variety too. If it had just a tad more video game material, it would be near MegaCon level.

Popularity: unranked [?]

man, enough cosplay at these conventions :/

as someone who has lived in japan, i can tell you that if you show up like that to tokyo game show (the largest gaming convention) they will seal you off in a special little area where people walk by and point and stare. translation: cosplaying isn’t quite encouraged.

(all the cosplay people you see in pictures are hanging out in yoyogi, in their own secluded area)

Hey, they’re havin’ fun. Isn’t that what you go to these things for?

Tokyo Game Show is such a joke now. I think E3 has finally made sure it is the king shit of gaming conventions. As far as cosplay goes at E3, they actually concentrate on new/upcoming games to the point I don’t notice the side eye candy.

Smaller cons like MegaCon, FX Show, VGXPO, need to start working with more publishers to get new material in these cons (not just video game related, but all tv, comics, movies, etc). New material instead of dealer stands and ten random actors.

Random: San Diego Comic con is turning into a beast that can’t be compared to anymore. It has the cosplay, it has the new material in the forms of exclusive trailers of movies, games, tv shows, it has it all. I’m jealous.

I was there Saturday afternoon and that girl in the black Kabuki-Sith-esque costume was so wild looking!
I couldn’t stare into her demon eyes for more than a second if I wanted to avoid having her steal my soul!
Mystery and sex all wrapped into one!
I wish she was my nightmare princess!!!

The chick was hot. I made sure to ask what the hell her costume was from, and she said it was an original, so more respect to her.

Ha ha! I know those two Klingons on the right in that trio! That’s Norm and Denise from the USS Haven, the Orlando Star Trek club. They are such wonderfully nice people, and the club is fantastic.

Just linked to this article from my blog. Thanks for telling me about it!
