My feelings towards Activision’s CEO are well known, but not even I can talk down to this. Tomorrow, as we are all playing Modern Warfare 2 and being called racial slurs by twelve year-olds with bad parents, Activision will be donating $1,000,000 to help start a foundation with a singular objective: helping military veterans find work.
Bobby Kotick, taking a brief timeout from being a business-minded douche (in his defense, it’s kind of his job to be a business-minded douche), summed up my feelings on the matter of veteran unemployment quite nicely:
The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more… How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can’t integrate back into the free market they’re supposed to be protecting?
I disapprove of a lot of things Activision has done in the past year or so, but this is a genuinely good move on their part. Well done, amigos… and if y’all are curious, I know one Iraq War vet who would really like a community management job…
Just sayin’…
