Earlier I got a bit of egg splattered on my face but I assure you that this is legitimate BioShock news. Well, maybe not news but… you know what I mean.
Speaking with MCV, 2K President Christoph Hartmann implied that BioShock could see four additional sequels to the one already in development — ala Star Wars.
If we spin [BioShock] the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did. Look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like BioShock.
Hartmann went on to say that 2K needs to be careful to not simply “cash in” and keep the game story driven. As an example, Hartmann pointed to a particular racing game to prove his point:
I won’t name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it’s hard to believe what they’ve done to it. It’s upsetting, actually.
Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I could have sworn Hartmann took a jab at EA and their raping of the Need for Speed franchise. Of course, he has a point… even if Hot Persuit 2 is the pinnacle of the franchise.
Either way, while I loved the first game and am dying for BioShock 2, the idea of six games scares me a tad. What do you think?
