Two weeks ago Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was riding high in Japan. It had seen it’s highest sale of consoles in a single week in several months, with over 6,000 units sold, and it appeared that the Xbox 360 may finally be starting to gain a little bit of traction in Japan.
…okay, not really.
Regardless, however, this past week the Xbox 360 has dropped from the 6,000+ figure of two weeks ago, to just barely selling two thousand units this week. Media Create Co., who compiles sales figures for all the players in the video game hardware business, reported Friday that the Xbox 360 sold a miniscule 2,198 units between February 11th, 2008 and February 17th, 2008.
This solidly cements Microsoft’s dead-last spot on the hardware sales chart in Japan, with even the nearly eight year-old PlayStation 2 outselling the poor bastard.
On the other end of the spectrum, Nintendo once again owns the top two spots in Japan, with the Wii still firmly entrenched at #1, while the DS ranked #2. Sony’s handheld ranked a strong #3.
