Are you one of the super cheap Xbox 360 owners who have yet to pony up the $50 for the Xbox LIVE Gold membership? Well, you’re in luck since you can now play certain games for free on Xbox LIVE.

While the deal sounds awesome, the good news quickly turns sour when you hear what games are free: Shadowrun, Lost Planet: Colonies and the inferior console port of the otherwise excellent Universe at War.

While many will brush this off as little more than Microsoft trying to convert some of the few XBL Silver members over to Gold status, when you take into account that Microsoft recently made Games for Windows a 100% free service you can’t help but wonder if this could be the precursor to a 100% Xbox LIVE.

…I fuckin’ doubt it.
