WiiWare Devs: “XBLA is full of shit”

If you don’t know what WiiWare is, I’ll summarize it for you: Think of the Wii Virtual Console, only replacing the classic video games from classic consoles with new, original titles developed specifically for the Wii. Simple enough? Good. Moving on.

It seems that some WiiWare developers who wish to remain anonymous have a problem with Microsoft and their Xbox LIVE Arcade service. In fact, one developer went so far as to say that they weren’t looking to make games for XBLA because it’s full of shit.

Frankly, we’re not looking at making games for Xbox LIVE Arcade because the service is full of shit.

I just said that. So why are so many developers flocking to WiiWare over Xbox LIVE Arcade besides the aforementioned shittiness? Well according to one developer WiiWare will allow developers to have a better chance to sell their games due to the lack of retro titles, and for a bigger cut as Nintendo offers higher royalty rates over Xbox LIVE. Note that Microsoft recently halfed all royalty rates for XBLA.

I have one question: If WiiWare is so great because it won’t have retro titles, or “shit” as was so affectionately referred to before, then why do some of the first titles for the service include Dr. Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Star Soldier R and Bomberman?

And Tetris too (seriously, Hudson is doing it).

Yeah, I am going to buy that damn game again and again no matter how many times it comes out.
