Earlier this week we learned that developers are talking about new and terrible ways to fight the used games market, and now it seems that Nintendo has found a way to fight off the used hardware market.
MTV Multiplayer, being better than us, recently received a press copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk. As you all know, Animal Crossing: City Folk (thank you CTRL + V) comes packaged with the new Wii Speak peripheral that will allow you to talk with your friends. However, when the fine folks at MTV unpackaged the game, they were shocked to discover a 16-digit confirmation code that owners have to input in order to download the Wii Speak Channel.
Curious, MTV contacted Nintendo about the code and were told that the Wii Speak Channel will not be available for purchase, and that the only way to unlock it is to input the confirmation code. The peripheral will still work for in-game chatting, though.
Considering I don’t own a Wii, I can’t really say if this is a good idea or not. I’ll leave that up to you fine folks.
