The U.S. Army has announced that they will be putting an added emphasis on video games, spending $50 million on the creation of a new video games unit that will begin training soldiers in 2010.
The Army has been working with video games for years now — after all, I’m sure we all know about America’s Army, the recruiting tool free FPS title from the Army that you can download for your PC. However, the Army has also used modified versions of games like Operation: Flashpoint and Full Spectrum Warrior to help train their GIs via the virtual battlefield. Hell, the Army has even begun to trail soldiers with virtual firing ranges — although from personal experience I can tell you that they play like a big, broken version of Duck Hunt.
The Army is now working on a training game called Game After Ambush. No word yet as to what game it is being based off of, but the Army assures that an announcement will be made in the next several days.
…and now we are one step closer to fighting all of Earth’s wars with Battlebots.
