Treyarch: Brothers in Arms is ‘a crappy war game’

UPDATE: Apologies have been issued:

Hi everybody,

My name is JD, and I’m the Community Manager here at Treyarch Stduios. I’m writing to you on behalf of my colleagues here at Treyarch.

Over the weekend, we learned that some disparaging comments were made by an Activision rep at a recent Call of Duty: World at War press event. We want to let everyone know that we found those remarks offensive, and they do not in any way represent the feelings of any developer at this studio or at Activision. We hold all of our peers in the development community in the highest regard. We have nothing but respect for the guys and gals at Gearbox.

We offer our sincerest apologies to anybody who was offended.

Kindly,
Treyarch dev team

Good deal. I can speak first-hand that, as a BiA fan, I was mighty pissed when I heard those comments. That didn’t come off in the below story, of course, as I have impeccable journalistic integ… rit… no I don’t.

Treyarch senior producer Noah Heller is an angry man, it seems. Speaking with EuroGamer, Heller had some “less than kind” words for fellow developer Gearbox, calling their next WWII title, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway a, quote, “crappy war game”.

Heller went on, saying that the people at Gearbox “aren’t even in the same league” as Treyarch. All of this is on film, and when you listen to Heller’s full quote, it actually stings more than when you just read the highlights. Which is interesting when you consider… they’re Treyarch.

We’ve asked Gearbox Software if they have any comment on these unprovoked statements, and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.
