The Punisher Cometh to PSN

There is no Marvel Comics character more badass than The Punisher. None. Period. Earlier this week there were rumors that a new Punisher game was in the works, and now we know for a fact that there is. It’s called The Punisher: No Mercy, and it is coming exclusively to the PlayStation Network.

What do we know about The Punisher: No Mercy? Well, we know that it is a multiplayer First-Person Shooter (the first FPS developed exclusively for the PSN). We also know that the game uses the Unreal Engine 3, which means that it should look gorgeous.

Here’s what Zen Studios’ Zsolt Kignyossy (…not easy) had to say about the game on Sony’s official PlayStation.Blog:

We’re calling the game The Punisher: No Mercy because that’s exactly what it is – merciless. For the first time on consoles, you’ll see the Marvel Universe through a first-person perspective in some intense arena-based multiplayer action. Also, the game is being built from the ground up with some serious tech – yes, we are using the Unreal Engine 3 (the ultimate FPS engine) for this exclusive PSN release. Our main focus is to create an awesome online multiplayer experience with the style and grit from the Punisher’s world, complete with characters like Jigsaw, Bushwacker, Barracuda and even Silver Sable (been reading War Journal lately?…).

No release date has been given yet, and no concrete details are known. But I don’t care, because the previous Punisher games have been nothing more than runnin’, gunnin’ blood baths (as they should be), so this one would have to work very hard indeed to screw the formula up.

More details as they emerge.

UPDATE: Turns out, Marvel will self-publish The Punisher: No Mercy.
