t3h w31rd: Week of May 11th, 2008

Here is the weekly recap of the strange, surreal and otherwise crazy… even if it has only been bi-weekly as of late. Sorry about that, kiddies, but I’ve been busy and I won’t let Mike or Allison touch my baby. Regardless, without further adieu, I give to you… t3h w31rd.

R2-D2 Projector
Nikko has just polevaulted into the top spot on my long list of gadget makers with this new toy of theirs. Check this thing out: A projector that… well, projects a 260″ image at a 1024×768 resolution, with a built-in iPod dock, Memory Card/USB ports, as well as a CD/DVD player and allowing hook-ups for all modern gaming consoles — and it looks like R2-D2.

Hell, the remote is shaped like the Millenium Falcon, for Christ sake! When I first saw this, I almost immediately bought it. Then I realized that I didn’t have $2,900 to spend on a projector.

The A-Team

This is why Machinima is art, people. Well done.

Wacca, Wacca, Wac–KABOOM!
I don’t think it’s going too far on a ledge to say that artists, in this day and age, are a bit pretentious. In fact, I would be more than willing to call more than a few of these self-professed “artists” self-absorbed pricks of the highest order. From the looks of it, the Peter Gronquist exhibit called “The Revolution Will Be Fabulous: A Weapons of Mass Designer Show” was just another one of those exhibits. But, amongst the drivel of the Chanel RPG and the Versace M240 Bravo, were these gems:

That’s right, bitches — Pac-Man grenades. Of all the things featured, I had to give these props.

Non-Gaming w31rd:
Texas Teens Unearth Corpse, Turn Skull into Bong
So get this, people — three teenagers in Texas were arrested this past Wednesday after digging up the corpse of an eleven year-old child. Why would they dig up the skeletal remains of an eleven year-old child, you ask? Simple: So they could get baked.

Points for effort and originality aside, I’m not sure what would drive three people to dig up the body of a child to steal a skull to turn into a bong. I will say, however, that if that had been my child’s grave that was dug up, these kids may want to watch their backs for a while.

And finally…

Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Ryu?
I’ll summarize what is on this 1:50 video:

  • Street Fighter II from Tiger Electronics
  • Street Fighter II Tabletop Game
  • Street Fighter II Strategy Guide… from GamePro
  • That is so fuckin’ sweet. See ya next week!
