Dudes and Dolls, we have a treat for you all. In honor of the April 27th release of Mario Kart Wii, Binge Gamer is giving you the opportunity to win a copy of your own! But that’s not all, folks. As you probably figured out by the feature image on the home page, in addition to Mario Kart Wii, you’ll also be getting brand new copies of both Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy.
So how do you win? Simple: Just leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite Mario game is, and why. What is the criteria for a “Mario game”? Any game that has Super Mario himself as a playable character. It’s as simple as that.
The contest will go from now until we announce a winner on April 27th, which just happens to be Mario Kart Wiis release date. Go figure.

Super Mario Land for the original GameBoy. Why is it my favorite? It’s the only Mario game I’ve ever finished….during Desert Storm no less.
Criteria for a Mario game? You answered it Mario has to be a playable character.
I really like Super Mario Bros 3. This was one of the games that my brother and sisters and I could play together and for some reason not want to kill each other minutes after we started. It was the only Mario game that I can remember that I finished multiple times and getting everything in the game was an addiction.
While I like all the Super Mario platformers and Kart games I would have to say I love the New Super Mario Bros. for the DS the most. Having played all the 2d sidescrolling Marios I would say that NSMB has some of the best level design and tightest controls of them all. Also being able to play it anywhere and DS local download play are 2 big pluses. It has one flaw though; that damn blue shell, useless.

Super Mario 64. Its not the best mario I’ve played, but it was my first. I had a SNES as a child and never got super mario world, but when I opened up m nintendo 64 that fateful christmas, my life changed with that game.
Mario Kart 64. Everything about it was great. The controls were great, the graphics were pretty (for the n64), Racing and Battle were crazy fun. It seemed like it had never ending replay value back in the day. No other cart racer has come close since – except maybe the DS version, though the controls aren’t as good.

My favourite Mario game?
Think waaay back to the NES Super Mario 2. You get to be someone other than Mario if you so choose, you have very funny music and funny looking worlds, and you have a princess who can fall slowly by pressing the right button (and letting the wind up her skirt. HA!).
It’s often ignored and forgotten about, but it is my favourite.
I’d have to say my favorite Mario game would have to be Super Mario Bros for the NES. Don’t get me wrong, the later ones are extremely good as well, but they just don’t match the feel of the original SMB. Over twenty years later it’s still fun to just pick up and play. Not to mention it paved the way for the future of games.
I know this is controversial, but my favourite Mario game would probably be…Mario Sunshine.

Granted; it’s not the best. But it is my favourite because out of all the Mario games I have played, it is the one that I enjoyed the most. Maybe I am easily pleased by the colours and sounds…
The point is that I enjoyed it all the way through. And I still do today. And that is why it is my favourite Mario game.
Super Mario Bros. 3. It was the culmination of all previous Mario games rolled up into one complete package. It had everything you could want in a Mario game including but not limited to awesome power-ups (Frog Suit and Tanooki!) and amazing level design. Plus, it had flying airships!!!! How can you beat that?
Mario Kart 64. Nothing like shredding the track in some good old fashioned four player kart racing.
My favorite Mario game would have to be Mario Kart 64.
The amount of time my cousin and I spent playing that game rivals all other games I have ever played. It was just so much fun, all the time. No race was ever the same, if you played it a million times it was still fun.
and there were no HORRIBLE tracks that you couldn’t race on.
Now that I’m older and I moved farther from my cousin, I’m excited that mario kart wii will have online so that we could hopefully relive those days!

It proved nintendo and square could make great things together, and that the mario universe could lend itself to an RPG and even a somewhat more fleshed out story…too bad none of the nintendo only mario rpgish sequels have been anywhere near as awesome

I’d have to say Super Mario World for the SNES is my all-time favorite. It stands out in part because I played it when I started to get “good” at video games and I played that thing until I got EVERYTHING. The main game was extremely enjoyable for me, and I just loved the secret exits, levels, switches, and power-ups you could find, especially the cape power-up.
I don’t think I’ll ever really forget finishing every Star Road level (even “Tubular”, that one was frustrating) and finding the Koopa shells replaced with crazy masks. I liked doing it so much I did everything again on the GBA!
So Super Mario World for me, hands down.

Well it was my first rpg and it sucked me into that genre and have been a huge rpg fan ever since.

Super Mario Bros 3. That game was so epic. It was the first game where you could fly which is, like, the kind of changes that video games sequels are made of. I remember being seven and playing through on the NES, at my buddy’s house, and every new world we would just spend our first life looking at the backgrounds and enemies and just marveling over it.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
It was the first game I seriously tried speedrunning before knowing what speedrunning was. Many hours were wasted perfecting my timing through Wario’s Castle. Also, cocks.
It’s a toss up for me between SSB Melee and Mario Kart 64. Mario was far from my favorite fighter in melee, so to be in the same vein as the contest I’m going to have to agree with the Mario Kart 64 posts. I spent many nights drinking and cursing at my friends in this game. The 4 battle mode maps are far superior to any of the ones in later versions (ds, double dash) and they never got old!
The original super mario bros for the nes ,its the only game i have finished houndred of times and doenst get old……. also was my first videogame so its create a milestone that change my whole life….the game its so balanced in every aspect……..
I say Super Mario RPG, its about the only non platforming mario game that I feel was able to really capture the feel of the series and move it to a new genre (RPG) while at the same time adding lots of new characters and locations, great gameplay, a good story, awesome nostalgic cameos, and still be “epic” and very funny at the same time.

super mario 64 because it was the first full 3D mario game, and paved the way for other 3D mario games. true most of the other ones sucked, but this one was fuck as hell….and i can play it on my DS.
The greatest Mario game as far as i’m concerned is Super Mario World. The introduction of Yoshi, the secret exits and switch places making for a Unique experience and of course the epic levels hidden in the star world. Those levels were the epitome of Mario challenge and creativity. I only personally know two people that have completed those levels. I know online there are plenty of people that have done it but not many people i know IRL can do it. Also the sweet videos of people modding the game so mario plays through the levels automatically help as well.
My favorite Mario game would have to be Mario’s Missing. j/k
It’s probably Super Mario 64. I played the hell out of that game. It was great; it brought a whole new experience to gamers, and not just Mario fans. I think the gameplay was what really made it great; the freedom of that three-dimensional world was an awesome feeling. It fused new and old Mario together perfectly.

My favorite Mario Game would probably be Super Mario World. It was the first Mario i ever really played through, and I have such wonderful memories of playing it as a kid. Even growing up I would still pick up the controller and run around Bowser’s castle and beat up the Koopa Kids and all that good stuff. My favorite is definitely Super Mario Brothers 3.
Not only for the sentimental value attached to it, but also because it was amazing. Minus worlds, frog suits, flying ships, etc. The pinnacle of 2D Mario platforming.

Super mario world. I grew up playing that game. I love the art style, i love all the bright colors, i love the music, and the level design is amazing. Playing super mario world always cheers me up.
OK most might hate me for this, but being a big fan of 3d gameing and glithing I have to say mario 64 would be my favorite. With the abilty to beat this game in a matter of minutes it was a record making and breaking game. So sick in so many ways.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins…I remember playing this on my gameboy going to and from school all the time…definitely helped the ride go by faster. If memory serves me correctly it’s the first time Wario was introduced also.
I have to go with Super Mario RPG. It’s simple, yet fun.. and has a great combat system. Also I remember it having great graphics for the SNES at the time.
The best Mario game has to be the original Mario Brothers on the original Nintendo. Number 2 and 3 were pretty darn fun too though.
For me, the best has to be, without question, Super Mario Brothers 3. Although I (and everyone in the universe) loved 1 and scratched our heads at and ended up enjoying 2, 3 was the first time that the mushroom kingdom universe suddenly felt completely real and alive (and all that on the good ol’ 8 bit NES.) The different stages with their variously transformed kings and koopa kid bosses, overall styles, animated overworld maps and the myriad power ups (not to mention an excellent inventory system that kids had been dreaming of since the first mario) made the game feel like a complete experience. By the time you reached the blacked out, militarized 8th world you really feel like you’ve traversed a vast geography and have reached the center of the koopa occupation!
Brilliant level design, great concepts, amazing art/graphics for its era… and I haven’t even mentioned all the specifics (tanooki suit!) I could go on forever about it.
This is a contest perfect for my son, Toad. After looking at the collection of our Mario games (we have far, far too many Mario games – he’s my son’s favorite character and we even have a Gamer Graffix of him on his wall), my 7 year old son chose Super Mario Sunshine.

My favorite Mario game is Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. The reason, well let me explain. My mom has always hated video games, hated them. My brothers would get so obsessed with them they’d start pretending to be in the game all day. Not only that but they would never stop asking to play. It drove my mom mad, you can imagine how suprised we were when we got a WII for Christmas, mom’s idea. The first game we got was Mario and Sonic. We all really loved the game because you really had to use your muscles to play the game. Now my mom let’s us play often, sometimes telling us to, because your getting lots of exercise while at the same time my brothers and I are happy.

My favorite is the original Mario Kart. I have fond memories of playing Super Mario with my cousins and never being able to jump over a certain part in level 2. Mario Kart is by far much easier for me to play. I even won a tournament once in college! For me, its all about whether or not I’m actually good at the game!

My favorite Mario game is Mario Kart. When I was in college we had a Gamecube and my roommates and I would sit around and play Mario Kart for hours! I guess you could call it our bonding time. My favorite Mario game is Super Mario World. While it seems generic, it tragically doesn’t get the immense amount of super love it deserves. Not only did it skyrocket the gameplay of the mario games to near 2D perfection that not even the newest DS game could match, it gave us the ultra-rewarding StarLand.

I believe my favorite Super Mario Bros. game would have to be Super Mario World. It was the first Super Mario Bros. game that I actually beat on my own (damn you Super Mario Bros! (1))and it was such a fun game. It also gave me a good childhood memory of being a cool big brother to my younger sister, she got the game for her birthday and asked me to beat it for her as she watched. The game kinda brought us closer as that was the time of our lives when we had daily brother/sister spats with each other lol.

I love the original games I used to play on nintendo (oh so long ago). I love playing Mario Kart Double Dash and Soccer, well and baseball – they are all so fun. My kids would be extatic if I won some Mario games for the wii (then I’d have to go by them the wii, which I want to do anyway!)

We are anxiously awaiting the release of Mario Cart for the Wii. My kids have enjoyed Mario since they first got Gameboys years ago. I asked my daughter which Mario was their favourite, and she said she thought Mario Galaxy. The reason…because it is fun. You can’t get any better than that.

My first and favorite Mario game was Super Mario World for the SNES
because it was my first game and system. My mom had been talking to her friend and the topic came up of keeping kids busy during road trips and the like. Her friend mentioned videogames such as the gameboy and SNES games. They had an extra SNES and we traded our old refrigerator for an SNES. This is where my love for videogames began and eventually snowballed into me geting a Gameboy for road trips and lives until this day.

You know, I was a teenager when I played that game, and of the 6 kids and 2 adults in my family, I was the only one who played it well enough to advance to the final stage. I *almost* beat it! I was so close, so many times! I must have played and nearly beat the boss about 20 times before my nerves and adrenaline got to me and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I just shut the game off and stood there, limbs all shaking. I wish I had gone back to beat it! But seriously, Mario games are my favorite!

Super Mario 3 was great with all the different suits you could wear. Super Mario 2 was pretty cool, with playing the different characters, and the turnip pull. Super Mario World is probably the one I played the most, I loved getting the exclamation blocks and saving all the Yoshis. Mario 64 I still haven’t played much of, I find the 3-D Platforming rather challenging, but quite enjoyable. Mario Kart battle mode was one of my favorite games to play with friends. Mario Party is fun, but long, and I always ended up with blisters on my palms from the analog stick rotation games.
I think my favorite Mario game though is still the original Super Mario Bros. There’s nothing quite like that thrill of excitement at getting to the end of the level, riding the flag pole, hearing the fanfare, and seeing the fireworks go off over the castle. It was my first introduction to video games, and it remains the only video game my grandparents own (and we played it every single time we visited them, despite having it, and later many other games of our own at home). The controls are beautifully simple and easy to learn, too.

I really like Mario Kart, double dash! The first night we had it, we played it for 8 hours straight! Now, we of course try to get some breaks in there, but this is still my favorite game!

I loved the old Mario Bros. for NES – it was the first video game & video game system I’d ever used (I bought one together with my little brother). Although, my husband recently brought home that Mario Worlds game (I might have the name wrong – the one for Wii where you jump onto different planets?) and it’s SO FUN!
I like Super Mario World for Super Nintendo. I know that’s totally old, but that’s the only game system we have right now! Hubby is probably buying a Wii soon though if he can talk me into letting him lol. Maybe if we have some games I’ll give in

OH My Gosh! Talk about the perfect Mother’s Day gift! I got my wii for Mother’s Day last year, and I have REALLY been wanting SuperMario Galaxy. I can’t even imagine how wonderful it would be to have MARIO KART. I loved it on the old n64 and the Gamecube too!
As for my favorite Mario Game, I think I’d have to pick the one where he flies. I can’t remember the name, though.

YOSHI’s ISLAND of course. I just have to say that i am dissapointed in all of the entries. Not one of them included yoshis island. That game was amazing. It has to be the greatest game of all time. How could you deny it. The music was good and baby mario was a great character for the game. I have played pretty much all of the games over the years but I still think my favorite is the old school original. There is something about it that draws me back time and time again. I even have the music on my phone as a ringtone! The last one I got for my Wii was Paper Mario and then I downloaded the original and have been stuck on it again lately. These would freshen up my collection and get me back into the modern Mario era again!!!

I absolutely loved Super Mario Bros 3 for the original Nintendo. Lots of fun hours playing on that as a kid. I also love Mario Kart for the game cube! I don’t own it, but would love to own the new one for the Wii.

Reason for this pick is that this game holds wonderful memories from my childhood of me slaughtering my friends everytime we played, caused they never owned the game
,and of me being with my old friends alot and having fun with them, before i moved.
We would use to go over my house and spend hours in my basement playing the game till dark. We all had fun and that is what matters to me. This is why i chose Mario Party 2 for the N64.

Super Mario World for the SNES. Playing it at my cousins or a friends place, on an emulator, or later my GBA:SP always made for a good time. The gameplay still holds up to this day as top-notch for a platformer. The graphics, though dated by today’s standards, still look as beautiful to me as they did when I first tried the game years ago. And the replay value? Out of this world. This is a game I’ve played multiple times already, and a game I see myself playing many more times. No other game has this sort of replay value for me.
I think my favorite would be Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 stars. That game was awesome!

My favorite non-platforming Mario game would be Super Mario RPG. It had so many small Mario references and was generally just a bunch of fun. My favorite Mario platformer would be Super Mario World on the SNES. It was just a ton of fun that no other Mario has been able to match, with the possible exception of Mario Galaxy.
