Alex St. John, the chief executive at the spyware foundry that is WildTangent, believes that console gaming will be extinct by 2020.
No, seriously, he does.
Speaking at the Casual Connect conference in Seattle, St. John expressed his belief that the console market is an “extremely fragile business”, and that this crop of consoles will go down as being the “last generation of consoles that you either see or that anybody regards as successful in the market.”
…heh… Alex St. John told a funny.
But why does St. John feel the console market is going to burn? Because the PC Market is on its way to the top, that’s why! Citing shareholders refusal to go along for the multi-billion dollar ride, along with the increaseing ownership of laptops, St. John believes that PC gaming is on the way up, while consoles are on the way down.
A personal theory of mine is that WildTangent has simply figured out a way to create malware for the PS3. Either way, if this were John Carmack or Will Wright saying this, I’d be inclined to listen — not this guppy, though. Go back to the office and get to work on Polar Golfer 2, or somethin’.
