Sony: No Plans for Wii Remote Knock-Off for PlayStation

Just in case you were wondering, Sony has no plans on making a cheap Wii knock-off controller for the PlayStation 2.

In an interview with GameDaily, SCEA’s Scott Steinberg made it very clear Sony has no plans on developing, let alone releasing, a Wiimote-styled controller for the zombie console, the PlayStation 2. Why not? It wouldn’t be as innovative, says Steinberg:

I think a Wii Remote style would feel a bit less innovative on the PS2, so I don’t think we have any plans to go there. I think it’s interesting to think of what different controller configurations could do for the PS3 and possibly for the PS2, but as a Wii Remote knock off, I don’t think we’re in the business of creating knock offs.

I wasn’t aware that this was a rumor, to be honest. However, I will say that it’s good to know that Sony isn’t going to try and cash in on some kind of cheap knock-off.
