Sony: It’s Your Fault 2.40 Broke Your System

Sony has explained what the problem was with Firmware 2.40 that was causing consoles to up and die on their user, and as it turns out… it was all your fault. Kind of.

According to a statement released by SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe), “certain system administratitive data” on your hard drive is what led to a small number of consoles going belly-up when they tried to run the new Firmware. If you are the not-so-proud owner of a bricked console, your only option is to wipe the hard drive. If you weren’t able to download 2.40, now you can freely download 2.41 and rest assured that the eight and a half days it takes to actually download and install anything off Sony’s network will be well worth it.
