When The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters was first released, I was one of the few who stood on Billy Mitchell’s side. “Surely,” I thought to myself, “this man, who has conquered so many arcade titles in his time, cannot be this much of a raving douchebag!”
Today, June the 11th, 2008… I take all of that back. Billy Mitchell really is that insufferable. Don’t believe me? Shut up and watch:
The full special airs this Friday at 9pm on G4, and may help to disprove the now cemented idea that Billy Mitchell is a generally unpleasant man to be around. Somehow, though… I really doubt that.
Yeah and the sad thing is this guy is so full of himself if you were come up to him and say
“You play f**king Donkey Kong” he’d turn to you without missing a beat and say “Yeah, and I’m the best”

Just watched the documentary — loved it… and think Steve Wiebe is such a great guy. It’s laughable however, that ALL of these gamer guys (except Steve) were probably relentlessly bullied when they were in school and now, in their own NERDY way, they were being the ‘bullies’ . About Billy being a douchebag, no amount of editing would ever hold him in a good light. He’s been in this gamer bubble for 28 years and all his geeky pals have been right there along with him… Way to go Steve Wiebe… you’re awesome (and so is your wife for putting up with your gaming).
I agree, Billy Mitchell is kind of a douche in the documentary. You all know that he had that tape beating Wiebe’s first score from Funspot sitting around for years, just so he could give himself a pat on the back saying ‘Oh yeah… I beat that score too. I’m still the best.”
I was really hoping that Mitchell would be present for when his score got taken down after so many years, proudly handing over his torch with pride, the way a true champion would. Instead he showed the world he is just a little boy in a man’s body… that looks surprisingly like Ben Stiller.
Billy Mitchell is a big pussy too scared to compete head on and risk losing in front of a crowd. He is a coward who defines himself by his accomplishments he earned two decades ago. He lives in the past and his lame haircut proves it. He really doesn’t have any true friends because if he did they wouldn’t let him walk around with that ridiculous hair-do. What is that? Steve Wiebe, on the other hand, has class and is the true sportsman champion.
This guy is NOT full of himself … he was talking about what he does really really better than anyone else … now Paris Hilton … she’s full of herself because she has nothing to offer anybody except being a rich daddy’s girl. I don’t even want to go into professional athletes or movie celebrities or rock stars or politicians … get a grip … this guys a pussycat.
You must be Brian Kuh in disguise. He’s the guy who was so far up Billy’s ass in that documentary. Reporting to Billy over the phone every little moment that was going on like this was Brian’s only way to feel needed in the world. You have totally jumped off the topic by bringing up other characters. The difference between athletes and celebrities and your butt-buddy Billy is most athletes are more humble in their profession and have to work with others in order to make it in their industry. They also give their time and money to charities. There is a far better brother-hood between those you despise than Billy. There is a reason Billy is full of himself, and it is the same for others who are full of themselves – no one else gives a damn about people like Billy, so he has to fool himself into thinking he’s worth something to society.
You, Miguel, for sticking up for someone like Billy has to be in the same boat, so for that I feel sorry for you. So, look in the mirror and get your own grip you moron.

Billy makes my skin crawl, the guy is ridiculous, and his lameatron fake boobed wife too. In the documentary when he finally shows up there’s a scene where he and his lame wife walk by and you can see he’s totally brainwashed that idiot woman just from the look he gives to Steve’s back. Steve is awesome and down to earth.
Billy is just one of those individuals who has lost all touch with reality. He appears to be an individual who is gifted with forethought and strategic planning and of course his most valuable gift of all, not being born with a f@*king soul. This ass would throw his own family underneath a bus if it meant he would keep his title. Hell, I’m still trying to figure out how this guy has a wife and even a child! In vitro fertilization comes to mind. This man has no class, no sense of honor, no humility, and as stated above no soul. When he finally dies (by natural means or just the inevitable he pisses off the wrong person) not even hell will take him.
They need to make a movie about this and Ben Stiller would be perfect for Billy Mitchell’s part haha.
@ Gabe: I agree that Billy really showed his true colors in the documentary. However, you have to at least have some empathy for the fact that this guy has defined his life and sense of worth around his video gaming titles — and to deprive him of that would essentially shatter his reason for existing. What you interpreted as arrogance and cruelty was really just a broken man, desperately clinging to the fragile and conditional approval of society. I actually felt sympathy for Billy Mitchell when watching this documentary because, unlike Steve Weibe, he really had nothing to live for besides donkey kong. This whole movie just shows that humans cannot achieve a sense of purpose from personal achievement or material gain; one must establish their purpose on the everlasting and unconditional love of God.

Well stated Joel. My husband Jeff just made me watch King of Kong because of it’s wonderful message of redemption for Steve Wiebe but we wholeheartedly agree with you about Billy Mitchell.
