Shed a Tear for Wesker: Waugh will NOT Return for RE5

Let’s get one thing straight: Albert Wesker is cool. In fact, he is more than cool. He is epic, and the most defining aspect of his “epicness” is his voice, primarily done by experienced voice actor Richard Waugh. Waugh’s first appearance as Wesker was in Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and has done the voice of Wesker in RE:CV, RE0 and RE4. However, those of you who have played through Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii may notice something slightly amiss with his voice. Observe:

Richard Waugh

D.C. Douglas

You don’t have to be listening particularly closely to notice that something is definitely off with Wesker’s voice. The man who portrayed the voice of Wesker in RE:UC was actor D.C. Douglas, and he is apparently slated to be the voice of Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 5.

DO NOT WANT!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure D.C. Douglas is a fantastic actor, but Richard Waugh is Albert Wesker. When you read the interview with Waugh at Zentendo, he speaks at some length about how he gave Wesker certain character attributes (such as his Data-esque refusal to use contractions), and suggested changes to the script that would make Wesker sound more bad ass and less campy.

I hope Capcom comes to their senses and realizes that they’re messing with the most beloved character in their most successful franchise, and a whole hell of a lot of longtime Resident Evil fans like myself are going to be mighty pissed. I certainly understand why Capcom would want to use non-union actors to do the voices in their games, every once in a while it’s worth paying a little extra to make the fans happy.

Richard encourages all of us (the fans) to let Capcom know that we want Waugh. …”we want Waugh”… hmm… that should be on a shirt, or something…

Douglas made him sound like a homosexual. He was waaaaay off when he did REUC. I hadn’t heard of the change so when I played REUC and heard Weskers voice I litterally made a face like I sucked on an atomic lemon. I played Re5 and I am gonna stay in denial and say the real Wesker is in his command center watching his CLONE fuck up. I mean seriously Capcom couldn’t make Wesker any less out of character than in RE5. I mean he couldn’t even mimic Richards tradmark Wesker laugh… so sad.

Richard if you see this YOU ARE ALBERT WESKER. Douglas isn’t even your shadow. You are greatly missed and Weskers fate has killed Capcom for me. I hope to God they bring you back if they make a reboot. Your voice and your effort made Wesker the character we all loved.

I personally like Douglas’s Wesker better than Waugh. Douglas gives Wesker a tone of conceit and resolve plus a hint of British, which, to me makes him stand out even more as a badass villain. I’m sorry, but for me Douglas is the better Wesker.

I agree with Ryder. I like Douglas more than Waugh. Wesker’s voice in RE5 is one of my favorite things about him ^^

Oh, and to Viper, Wesker’s laugh in RE5 was amazing.

ya weskers laugh in re5 was amazing, i also liked how his voice had that superior edge to it that feeling of evil and that he’s canadian eh? But don’t get me wrong the origional voice was good but i like the new one better.
