Adam Sessler is a wise and honorable man who truly understands that when a PC game gives you “Recommended Settings”, the game should run as advertised with those very damn settings. It is becoming a more and more dire problem in this day and age, where playing a game at its recommended settings simply isn’t enough to get the full experience of the game.
This really is a widespread problem, and people who don’t have the thousands of dollars to invest in a true “gaming” PC really do wind up getting the shaft. For instance, here are the basic specs of my PC:
Intel Pentium D 2.80GHz
3GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600 GT
It’s not the best, but I can run the games I tend to enjoy on it. But even some of my older games, like Star Wars: Empire at War have some issue when running them, and I am WAY over the recommended settings. And like Adam said, there is no one person to blame.
Everyone is to blame. The developers are to blame for either underplaying or outright lying about their recommended settings. The hardware companies are to blame for releasing grotesauely pricy video cards that the average American can’t afford, but the developers are more than happy to push the limits of.
And Don Cheadle is to blame for replacing Terrance Howard in Iron Man 2. Unrelated, but still infuriating.
