UPDATE: Sony flatly denies these rumors, saying that they have no plans to bring PS2 titles to the PlayStation Store. Oh thee well.
Just as one rumor is confirmed (read: Trophies), another one rears its ugly-yet-promising head as a single image posted on N4G’s message board that showed Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty listed along with SSX, Fantavision, Red Faction, Ridge Racer, Smuggler’s Run and… um… I can’t make that last one out, but the key point is that they’re all PS2 titles.

According to the cheeky fellow who posted this image, his friend who works at Sony’s London offices (SCEE) let him in on a few tidbits regarding Sony’s plans for E3. You see, apparently the PS2 store is Sony’s answer to Xbox Originals on Xbox LIVE and should be announced at E3. Also, if the rumors are true then it’ll be released in Europe first — a pleasant change for those on the Eastern side of the Atlantic, to be sure.
The only complaint to be had about this is with those of us who own 40GB PS3s — I don’t want to have to rebuy my entire PS2 library because Sony can’t get it in their heads that Backwards Compatibility is a good thing.
