Hey! Do you want to build a supercomputer? Sure you do. Here’s what you will need: A PlayStation 3.
…nope, that’s it. Just a PlayStation 3.
You may remember that last year University of Massachusettes-Dartmouth Professor Guarav Khanna built a supercomputer out of eight PlayStation 3s tied together. The resulting supercalculator was so powerful that it was able to calculate complex equations designed to predict the properties of gravitational waves generated by the black holes at the center of the galaxy… because we all want to know that, right?
Well, with a struggling economy and many universities cutting back on funding for all classes, Khanna has published a guide on how to build your own supercomputer using the PlayStation 3.
Not sure what all you’ll need? Well, here is what you’ll need, according to The Cluster Workshop:
You will need a PlayStation3 console, a working Internet connection, and a PC to burn disc images. You will also need One(1) blank DVD-R, One(1) blank CD-R, and finally a USB mem stick/thumb-drive.
Now for the average person this is probably useless, but you have to admit that on a certain level… this is pretty awesome.
