Sometime yesterday, a leak was found on ThePirateBay (among other torrent sites by now) containing the firmware update to get yourself that brand new shiny dashboard. It comes with a pretty large restriction though, you cannot access Xbox Live. The bonus is that you can already do things like.. install a game to your hard drive. So if you are playing Fable II, this is awesome, as on top of less of load times, there is less pop up and less of your disc drive sounding like it is going to take off.

At the moment, people are assuming you will be able to connect to Xbox Live again on November 19th, however this is not certain, so again, do this at your own risk. The assumption that you will be able to connect back onto Live comes from emails sent to people who did in fact obtain preview access:

If an unregistered console is updated with the NXE update, that console will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE until the NXE has been officially released on November 19th.

Being a CoD4 addict like myself, I dare not even try this, but if you have only a Silver account or just don’t play online games that much… well… I still can’t recommend installing this update without Microsoft’s official permission, but here is the link to get it if you want it.
