When the news first broke that all four original Ghostbusters (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson) were returning to their iconic roles for Ghostbusters: The Video Game (aka Ghostbusters 3), there wasn’t a gamer worth his weight in salt (what the hell does that mean?) who wasn’t incredibly excited. However, not everybody from the original classic will be returning for the third chapter.
Neither Rick Moranis or Sigourney Weaver will be returning in the game. In the case of Rick Moranis, Sierra Producer Ben Borth only said that Moranis had made a ton of cash off of his megahit “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and that he’s happily retired.
Moranis retired from making movies in the mid-90s to raise his children after the death of his wife, after the stresses of being a parent while traveling to make films became too much. Understandable, and he certainly retired for honorable reasons… but come on. It’s an hour in a sound booth. Two hours, tops. Do it for us, the fans, man.
As for Weaver… who knows. I find it perplexing that the woman who agreed to be in “Baby Mama”, “Alien: Resurrection” and “Heartbreakers” would say no to anything. Of course, I’m working on the assumption that Weaver won’t be in the film based on the fact that, in all the talk of the impressive voice cast, her name hasn’t come up once.
