Well kids, it’s official: Nintendo has formally announced the Nintendo DSi. What is the Nintendo DSi? Why, I’m glad I asked.
There have been rumors for ages that Nintendo was working on a new SKU for their immensely popular Nintendo DS. These rumors included a slimmer handheld with a build-in camera, a built-in DS card slot, and the noticable lack of any kind of GBA slot.
As it turns out, the rumors were just a tad more than “in the ballpark”. In fact, they were spot fucking on.
The most obvious new feature is the camera. There is one on the outside of the DSi, while a second camera rests next to the microphone for when the handheld is open. No word yet as to the megapixel resolution, though the internal camera is VGA.
Nintendo is also launching the DSi Shop. Guess what you do there… buy DSi content! Very good! Users will be able to go to the DSi Shop via either their DSi or Wii, and be able to buy content with the 1,000 Nintendo Points that will be bundled with the handheld.
Oh, yeah. Nintendo renamed their Wii Points “Nintendo Points”, just to clear up any confusion.
So, when can we expect to see the Nintendo DSi? November 1st… if you live in Japan. Sorry, but no North American release date has been announced just yet. It sucks, I know. But as soon as they tell us, we’ll tell you.
