It’s quite apparent that Microsoft and Sony don’t particularly like each other. Which is cool, since the first rule of warfare (other than “shoot the other guy”) is “don’t be friends with your enemy”.
I point this out to mention a comment made by Microsoft’s top dog, Shane Kim. It’s getting to be about the time in a console’s life cycle when rumors or a successor begin to swirl, and naturally Kim was asked about when we could expect to see Microsoft ditch the 360 in favor of another console.
So when will Microsoft stop selling the Xbox 360? According to Kim:
One day longer than the lifespan of the PlayStation 3.
On one hand, that seems a bit like a douchebag move. On the other hand I rather like it since it means I won’t have to worry about standing out in the cold ass Michigan weather for all hours of the night waiting to buy a console that won’t see any good games for six months.
