Microsoft: NXE is The Best Thing Since Color TV!

When I founded Binge Gamer back in March, I swore that we would never start posting every press release to come our way — unlike some other video game sites you may frequent. However, the press release Microsoft issued regarding the New Xbox Experience is… yeah, it’s worth note.

I won’t post the whole thing, but here is the first paragraph:

New Xbox Experience Ushers in a New Era of Entertainment with Movie Studios throughout the World

LONDON – Nov. 18, 2008 — In 1954, the introduction of colour TV heralded the dawn of a new era in entertainment. On Nov. 19, more than 50 years after that dramatic shift, a new era in home entertainment begins with the New Xbox Experience as millions of Xbox 360â„¢ consoles will transform instantly through the power of software. A bold new future begins now, where high definition entertainment is delivered in an instant, the best games share the stage with the best movies, and every experience is shared with friends and families, in the same room or around the world.

Good lord, even Peter Molyneux is saying to tone it down a little with the hype. Yeah, NXE is pretty nifty, but come on — what are you really doing that is a revolution? Netflix? You can already stream movies off your PC. Avatars? Those are Miis.

But what about the ability to install your games to the hard drive? Besides the fact that I ask that rhetorically in order to link to this piece, it’s also already been done — by Sony. And PCs.

While I’m not willing to say that the NXE is better than color television, I will say this much — it’s better than a lava lamp. That’s something, right?
