Microsoft Admits Corrupting RE5 Demos

Were you one of the people who downloaded the Japanese Resident Evil 5 demo off of a torrent site? Yeah? Good, good. Now, did you notice that it was, um, corrputed? You did? Awesome! Wanna know why?

Microsoft. That’s why.

Speaking with WorthPlaying, Microsoft has revealed the reason why your demo is suddenly corrupted: Because they wished it!

Earlier this week a demo of ‘Biohazard 5′, known in the US as ‘Resident Evil 5′, was released on Xbox LIVE in Japan. While the content was only intended for download in that country, a number of gamers outside of Japan were able to access this demo for a period of time. By putting measures in place to ensure it could only be downloaded in Japan the demo version was effectively reset, meaning that it is only supported by LIVE in the correct region. We look forward to being able to offer our gamers a chance to experience a US demo of this eagerly anticipated title soon.

That’s pretty cold, just going out and corrupting games like that. But, Microsoft has a point — the demo was intended solely for Japanese Xbox 360 owners. But the simple fact that you had people from North America (and I assume Europe) ripping the game off the internet should show both Microsoft and Capcom (and even Sony) that people want their RE5 already.
