MTV Multiplayer has confirmed that sexiest man alive Matt Damon was negotiating with developers to include his voice and likeness in the upcoming Bourne Conspiracy game. We need another game based off of a movie like we need more raciest 10-year-olds on Xbox Live.
Damon fans, sorry to disappoint you, but he’s stepped away from the table. Says Damon’s mother:
“I am very wary of violent video games. Research shows they desensitize kids to violence, even more because they engage kids in committing violence. Matt and I don’t share the same views about violence in adult films, but we do see eye-to-eye on the importance of protecting children. We both support regulations to stop the marketing of violence in films to children through violent toys, products, and video games.â€Â
….Are you letting that sink in for a moment?
…
Did she just put toys and video games in the same category? Here’s a news flash, Miss Fancy-Pants: Violent video games are not marketed toward children like Legos or Barbies.
The problem here is that this person makes it sound like video games are only played by seven-year-olds. Its ok to STAB SOMEONE IN THE HAND WITH YOUR PEN in a movie made for adults, but apparently not in a video game made for adults. Wtf.
Here’s the thing. If you’re going to make another shitty game from a movie series that, frankly, could have been condensed into one movie (seriously – I can’t even really remember what happened in them all except for lots of car chases and confusion), then you need to actually stay true to that movie. What would a Bourne video game be if it didn’t include a bit of violence?
My guess? This had nothing to do with violence and everything to do with an ignorance of how the video game industry works. It’s not like the movies. Having Matt Damon’s video isn’t really going to entice a ton more people to purchase the game. If someone’s going to buy it, they’ll do so with or without him. I think that Damon and his publicist backed away hoping for more money, and were probably super surprised when developers didn’t offer it.
Kids with shitty parents are going to be exposed to adult films OR video games. If you make one but not the other, you’re not doing the world a good deed – you’re only missing out on the chance to do something kinda cool. I mean, craptastic as if may be, who wouldn’t want to star in a video game? They can use MY voice and likeness if they want.
I’ll leave you with one final thought. It is not ok to make violent video games, but apparently it is ok to do this:
(and just because this is the funniest thing in the fucking world, you need to watch this follow-up video…)
